I had made another post earlier about quitting my job because of getting a better offer. But it made me ponder about worker's rights more generally. As I said, I work in IT, which is one of the better places to work. The joke goes that we get paid to stare at a backlit rectangle all day. The pay is good and it allows me to have money to spend on my hobbies. But on a deeper level, it isn't that rosy. Despite making good money for where I live, I'd still need to take out a bank loan of at least a decade or more to buy a house. Yes, the company’s name is Advance Bauto Barts, for the sake of this post, and potential legal purposes. A few years ago, through nepotism, I secured a position working there as a delivery driver. Per industry policy, people who deliver car parts to dealerships and mechanic shops get paid less than customer service workers, that operate the retail front of a store. This didn’t bother me at first, because I didn’t have the self-esteem to recognize how inherently wrong it was. Regardless, I worked this job for a little over a year. Throughout that time, my shift changed from working the Monday-Friday day shift, to the Tuesday-Saturday evening shift. I didn’t have much of a social life, was content with mediocrity, and worked through it until I decided I wanted more money. I ended up leaving that job for a different, higher paying cooking job. I mean it’s not like I’m working some big time job. I sell ice cream cones at minimum wage so I can pay for my car. Got promoted a few month ago cause everyone quit and they needed managers. Now I literally make half of what I use to because my hours were cut. I need to look for a second job now just to pay $500 a month for a car and insurance

After reading different people’s experiences on anti work, I’ve quit my job. I do truly love it, but was compensated unfairly. It was a State job where we conducted prescribed burns and wildfire control, as well as habitat restoration. After 8 years, I’m nine cents above minimum wage. One of my co-workers lives in a 300 sq foot shack with a family of 5. While we barely make it, the directors and pencil pushers get paid in the upper 5 figures to 6. Principals brought me to this work, and principals are making me leave. It’s amazing though. Once I decided that it was unjust and wrong, multiple doors have opened up for me in the same line of work, that I truly love. Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone.
