MLMs suck

Took time off of work today for an interview. The application said the salary was 40-65k but it turned out to be an MLM scam. I would start at 9.50 an hour or be paid by commission (the harder I work, the more I make type shit) and then they tried to sell me on holiday trips, “easy” promotions, opening my own business, and the general bullshit. Oh and of course I earn a percentage of commissions that employees make who I recruit….fuck MLMs. Don't fall Pinnacle Rock and Co. It's a scam.

Welcome to the corporate world!

Today, my boss asked me if I was working in the office or from home. I answered “home”. She then proceeded to ask if everything was okay and then asked why I was not working in the office. The arsehat had to ask me if I was in the office and then chastised me for WFH, all while…she was working from home herself. Make it make sense, please.

Making a $103.00 drive-off.

My wife works at a gas station. Recently, a customer drove off without paying for gas. Now, they are told not to pre-authorize fuel pumps 3 & 4 to avoid situations like these. Pumps 1& 2 are aligned better so you can see license plates, so you are told you can pre-auth if the customer is a regular. However, people BERATE cashiers who don't do this, pull a Karen, and get the manager involved, and usually get their way anyway. It is an EXTREMELY lax policy, I even I have heard the manager say “just do it, don't do it, it doesn't matter”. So, of course, it happend and now the manager is expecting her to fork over 103 bucks like it is just no big deal. And of course threats of disciplinary action are be made to intimidate her into paying. I think it's total bullshit. If a customer…

Tech sales people – tell your customers the truth about your products

I’ve seen too many business owners buy expensive software thinking it will ease the burden on their employees. In fact, it often creates more data entry and information maintenance work. For example, if the CRM doesn’t have many automations someone has to enter the info into the system. Also, websites need to be maintained and optimized over time. They don’t just “suddenly” lead to success.

Confirmed today that I am losing my job

I have been busting my ass as a remote contractor for a mobile game company for nearly two years now after leaving Blizzard Entertainment where I had worked for close to three years. And today I found out that my contract will not be extended. I do email support for a mobile game company mostly dealing with account and payment issues. I am leaving out their name because I only have four weeks left to find a new job and still have to work there for those four weeks until I can find something else. When I started, I was hired on completely remote and have never once stepped into the office that they have been trying to push us to return to. The office is based in Austin, TX and only making $16 an hour was not sustainable for me to continue living there due to the dramatically increasing…

Give People More Money!

Anyone else in a position responsible for hiring giving people more than they ask for? I know the typical rates of what people in my industry generally expect, and I also know what my boss is willing to pay. The past few people I’ve hired at an additional $2-$3 an hour more than they’re asking for because I know I can get away with giving it to them. If you’re in a position to do so, give people more money!

Billing Time Making Me Want to Quit

I work for a company that essentially works as staff for multiple companies and every single minute of our day has to be accounted for. If you don’t have a specific time code to bill to, you’re supposed to use PTO. I am having such a hard time completing projects and tracking time because I know that I’m not doing everything for the “right” amount of time, so I don’t keep my time card up to date and then it takes me hours to fill in. Plus I just lose time because this job is so boring. I open an email with a rude question that I answer twice a day in it, get up to reheat my tea and half an hour is just gone.

No Showed by Interviewer

Not sure if this is the right place for it as I’m not sure whose end it’s anti-work on. Quick back story: laid off end of December, been looking for a job ever since. I applied for a photographer job, first interview was last Thursday with the company’s main supervisor for the state, with the regional supervisor having missed the call. Reg. Super emails next day to set up second interview. I respond quickly with a timeframe, no response. Tuesday I’m at an appointment when they email me they’d like to do the interview at 4. Time of email came in at 3:06pm. I wasn’t available until after 5, when I saw the email. I respond that Wednesday or Thursday at 4 works. They reply “4pm Wednesday, I’ll send you the link.” Great! After having no link sent by 4:20 or so Wednesday, I email. I get a response two…
