My boss cut the hiring rate

So I am a restaurant worker and we got a new general manager (like new hire). He had us in a meeting and said we need to hire people at $12/hr because “we are the highest paying store in the company but we aren't bringing in the business to validate it.” Every fast food chain and gas station around is flying banners for $15 starting out and this boomer expects to get people to work harder for less money. There's no one applying for this job as is! I can't do anything to fix this and it aggravates me to no end. On top of everything, he has been pushing managers to write up people for not getting their shifts covered and build paper trails. We already lost 2 employees because of him and yet we keep hearing get the job done, no overtime.

My father worked 3.5 years in the last 3 years.

My dad has been with this company that barely pays him enough for his salary as it is for 12 years now. He’s been salary for about 5 of those years. He just did the math and found that’s he’s paid less than the lowest hourly employee wage at his company. He’s worked over 2 months of overtime every year. He’s finally asking for a decent raise, or he’s asking to go back to hourly, because he can’t take this treatment anymore. I’m really proud of him for finally standing up for himself and his family.

Let’s not repeat the great toilet paper heist of 2021. Seriously though, if your employees can’t afford toilet paper, pay them more ffs.

I don’t know anymore

I'm a lurker here, didn't even have an account until a few weeks ago and even then didn't post or comment. I've read many horror stories of poor employers on here and was invigorated to see that the company I work for seemed to be one of the good ones. “Employees come first” is our very first core tenant. But I know that's not the truth now. I had suspected when I complained about rewards and recognition being exclusively given to a specific team that only certain employees come first and there are others that are basically fodder but now I know for sure that is the case. Our office in Kyiv is closed, obviously because of the bombing of Ukraine by Russia. We received an email from our president basically asking us to remain calm and send our thoughts and prayers to our coworkers in Kyiv. Further down in…

I know that I’m off topic, but it is always the little guy who has to be moral, where are the donations to Ukraine from the rich capitalists? why is it me who is broke who has to donate 10$ dollars when some people could donate a million like nothings?

Obviously they have to defend their interests in russia, what if zuck donated? huge blow to fb in russia, what if elon donates? huge blow to tesla in russia. It's always us that has to do the moral choice because the rich, by definition, are criminals… Sorry for my shitty english

FML because of FMLA

My father is terminally ill. Here in the U.S., I need to have worked for an employer for 12 months to qualify for FMLA leave to care for him (to my understanding). There's a good chance I would need to take this kind of leave in the next year because he is beginning to decline. FMLA is not guaranteed, but I am likely to get the FMLA leave because of the type of employer I have and my length of employment. From what I understand FMLA leave guarantees you a position with your company on your return, so I wouldn't totally lose my job. I have time banked so that the FMLA would be mostly paid, at least for maybe two months, but I would lose all of my sick and vacation time doing it. Somewhat good news, for the U.S. at least, right? Here's the rub: I desperately want…

When your own parents are infected by pro-work bullshit and pressure you to go to work in unsafe conditions

I work a warehouse job. I drive heavy machinery. This warehouse is at the end of a winding, circuitous, hilly road, which is prone to freezing over with thick sheets of ice during wintertime. This morning, I attempted to report for work, only to find out that a tractor-trailer had eaten shit, blocking both sides of the road. I called my supervisor and informed him that I could not make it to work, due to the accident blocking the only road to the work site, as well as heavy police presence in the area. He understood and said something to the effect of, “Hey, stuff happens. You aren't the only one. Use your sick time. Don't be a hero.” So I go home and then get immediately berated by my parents for not working, despite having done everything according to company procedures, and doing my due diligence in attempting to…

Just another flavor of bullshit.

Just because the US isn’t a carbon copy of Russia doesn’t make us better or any more free. We get screwed all day every day and have become comfortable in the subliminal ways we are fucked over by our government. This is exasperated by a huge gap in quality of life/ the ‘American’ experience of those below the poverty line and the rich, the experience of POC vs non POC, and many other filters of oppression…. it’s easy to dismiss claims like mine because it’s also easy shelter away from the dark side of the American experience if afforded that luxury. As a US citizen I worry that what is happening overseas will be exploited as propaganda and used to further brainwash our citizens into continuing idea that ‘Merica’ is the greatest, freedom loving place on the planet and we are selfish, spoiled, entitled, and un-woke for being dissatisfied with…
