Since workers are being blamed for inflation, why don’t we take a page out of 1970s Italy’s playbook?

TIP: headphone mode puts the phone on hold without music. I do not get paid enough to be yelled at.

But you're paying me to act so I will act like I am listening. Switch back every 10 seconds to see if they are yelling still. Then say blah blah blah blah blah. Transfer hang up, or real hold to 'find' the answer to their question. Luckily I need things in writing at my job to take action so blah blah blah.

Frustrated manager fed up

So I manage a sizable business unit at a publicly traded corporation maybe you've heard of. The last 2 years have been rough. I have amazing immediate bosses in my larger area of the company, and outstanding employees all around. But with The Great Resignation came more work for everyone. Employees temporarily keeping customers happy to fill gaps, and leadership constantly trying to fall on our swords while we take months to recruit and hire new staff. We work in tech, so these are white collar jobs in super high demand. We have a good culture, no one has been asked to return to the office, it's not cutthroat, I approve timesheets and invoices so I know that most people are not working more than 40 hours. I and other managers have really relaxed time off and just let people do what they need to do as long as their…

Big Bank Acquires Another Big Bank, Gives Shit Pay Raises to Impacted Employees

Posting this on a throwaway account so I don’t accidentally dox myself. So I work for one of my country’s biggest banks as an escalations agent for their call center. I work from home, which is nice, but the position is very stressful as a lot of the calls I’m fielding are from people who are angry and/or desperate. I’m not here for a lecture on how evil the bank is, I already know. Long story short, our workload is about to increase tenfold due to our department being assigned the bulk of the difficult and complex calls that will be coming through from customers of the newly acquired bank. We recently had our annual reviews, and the pay increases offered to top employees in the department were around 3%, and for employees just below that they were less. Now, how is it that you’re expecting us to do significantly…

What you can achieve with hard work!

A young man is at work when his boss pulls up in a beautiful red Ferrari. The boss says to his employee “you see my car over there.” – “Yeah it's amazing” says the employee. The boss puts his hand on his employees shoulder and leans in and says “if you keep working really hard, stay back after hours, and dig deep, I'll be able to afford to upgrade to the latest model next year.”

I am so sick of bending over backwards to get a job that will in all likelihood treat my no better than a pile of garbage

Oh, my resume needs to catch your eye? God forbid you should evaluate resumes neutrally and dispassionately. We wouldn't want to hire people based on their qualifications – no, their ability to make the page POP is far more important. Now I have to write a cover letter explaining why I want the job and sucking off the company? Great! I want the job so I can eat and your company is pure evil like every other company. In what universe is any of this genuine? Cool, I got the interview, now I gotta dress nice even though I'll be working from home in my sweatpants. Gotta be polite, make eye contact, be confident – but not too confident! You don't want to spook the recruiters! So that's it, right? Now they'll deliberate based on the applicants' qualifications and make a decision? Right? WRONG, DICKNOSE! Now it's time to THANK…

Pretty small thing, but…

I work in tech, and for my past several jobs I have automatically installed work email client, slack, and other work related apps on my personal phone. I've never been exactly told it was “required” but it has always seemed to be a cultural norm in these kinds of companies. Like how to instructions on where to find corporate apps for your phone in your orientation packet kind of thing. I started a new job this past May, and I decided that I was not going to do this anymore. The only thing I've installed on my phone from my job is the 2FA (two factor authentication) app which is more convenient for me, and only makes any noise when I initiate an authentication request. I cannot tell you what a difference this has made in my quality of life! Now, when I'm off, I'm actually off. When my phone…
