Industry?

Just curious what type of career field the people on this sub are working in. Sounds off!

I started out in retail 9 months ago with an attitude of wanting to help. Now the industry has made me bitter, jaded, and depressed.

This work environment is toxic. It’s a horrible system that exploits and takes advantage of your kindness and breaks you, all for 15 dollars an hour, and that’s better than a lot of people have it. I feel so overworked and under appreciated. Everyday I leave work broken, stressed, and exhausted (I walk about 8 miles a day for my job). Some weeks I’m on the clock for more than 50 hours. I’m so beaten I don’t have the energy to better myself. I have no time or motivation to apply for jobs. The nights before I often struggle to sleep because I’m having anxiety about the next day. I’m starting to realize this job has made me depressed. I am such a positive person, but I can feel the negativity building up in me. Just a few things I have had to deal with: After 9 months, I have…

Would requesting ADA accommodation have any effect on slowing a PIP?

I'm applying for other jobs but need 2-3 weeks extra time at the current one. Current job put me on a 10 day PIP for slowness. On Weds boss called me at 5:05pm. I said I couldn't speak, he said it was time sensitive and immediately put me on a 10 day PIP ending next Friday. Appears to me to be a greased chute to a Friday firing with legal protection. Today is my first check in. I plan to show boss how I've been trying to improve, and also mention my ADHD. I had mentioned it to him before but said I would try to work through it without making a fuss. I plan to tell him today that was a mistake and now I will go to HR (I'll say this in soft, non-combative terms). Do you guys think this will help me or just hurt even more?…

My partner took 2 days off due to recent ill mental health and migraines, her gaslighting manager was ‘disappointed by this’ and she is now questioning herself, is anyone able to help me reassure her further that she’s done nothing wrong?

bad management is ruining a job that I enjoy

I work at a ski resort on a skeleton crew, and I enjoy (most of) the work and the people that I work with. My boss even told me “hey, maybe you could stick around for awhile and right the ship here.” I'd be lying if I said that it didn't appeal to me at least a little. Turns out, upper management has been neglecting to invest into the resort for nearly 25 years now. All of that appeal that I had from the idea of sticking around for awhile is diminishing since it seems like any idea given to upper management will be turned away for whatever they want to do. I plan on learning as much as I can and getting enough experience to go somewhere else. I'm not gonna waste my time barking up the wrong tree.

Jumping through hoops

So this happened over the summer, but it still bothers me so I thought I’d share. I was doing a lot of interviews at the time and they were all pretty much the same, phone then zoom then in person. One in particular was very different. They started off normal with a phone interview, and in that call ha asked if he could send me some links via email. One was just to their website, but the others were a personality test and a skills analysis test. Those were no big deal, maybe an hour of my time total. I had a zoom interview next where all they talked about were the results and how they were above average. Awesome, so they want to schedule another zoom interview. The next zoom interview was very standard, and at this point I really thought they might offer me something. I get an…

HELP: Getting a raise via new position in same company

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong sub. I'm to be tapped as a construction foreman (for context, I'm a 3rd year electrician in a hyper specialized field with 10 years of experiance on the more difficult end of things of the industry) It'll be my first time as foreman and it's a departure from what I do everyday, there will be a rather sharp learning and relearning curve but I'm quite capable of taking this on, and management seems to agree throughly. That said, I'm hoping for a $10 an hour bump. This would put me in just a touch less then some other foreman (some of which are journeymen, others have never been electricians, most haven't been in the industry as long as me) which I think would be fair. I'm wondering if there is any advice for: 1) getting my $10 an hour overall with little…
