In response to another post, I'm just going to give the post this, which is a somewhat long read, but a very worthwhile one: https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/your-book-review-progress-and-poverty It's a book review of Progress and Poverty written by Henry George in 1879, it was a best seller in it's day and over 200,000 people went to Henry George's wake. The TDLR of it is that since the supply of land can't change, anytime demand goes up due to an increase in wages or population then rent will rise. Therefore, the proceeds of most material progress will be captured by landlords and the amount of wages a worker gets to keep after paying rent will be reduced to the bare minimum to keep them alive. As Henry George put it: Place one hundred people on an island from which there is no escape. Make one of them the absolute owner of the others —…
How do we feel about this one?
So this is a bit of a vent and a question in one. I recently was hired as an RBT(registered behavior technician) and was offered 21.50. A month in ( today ) I realized my pay stubs have been off by .50. Not that much but I'm the main income in my household and I've been screwed over by too many jobs. I brought it up to my boss and she told me that she “accidentally” told me 21.50 and that “accidents” happen. She then proceeded to tell me that I would be making 20.50 which is a dollar less than what she originally told me and .50 less what I have had on my pay stubs. She said that with my experience there was no justification to pay me 21.50. I'm beyond pissed off and honestly at a loss of what to do. I need this job. I can't…
Apologies for formatting, I’m on mobile. I’m writing this on behalf of one of my parents in order to gain some insight into the situation. There’s A Lot going on, so this will be a long post. Names, ages, and further details will be excluded due to a lawyer already being contacted. Please do not share this post anywhere else. TL;DR: My parent seems to be at risk of being demoted and/or fired from their current position. They have worked with this company (construction-related) for two decades. The issue at hand is insubordinate employees causing issues with management. My parent’s boss sent an email to one of the company owner’s asking what he can due to move my parent back down to an entry-level position from their current supervisor position due to giving their boss “headaches” over certain issues. P – Parent ELE – Entry-Level Employee AKA the main issue…

The amount of people that are just so out of touch even with the minimum wage here is insane. Just found a post asking about landscaping in CA at 55/hr but they had four workers on site. That means should of been $64 a hour, then the main company should of lost money considering taxes and insurance, meaning they are hiring under the table and paying less then minimum for CA but these boomers are still complaining.
So! I recently had a job interview for a really awesome position which I would have loved to get and for which I am totally qualified! The interview went pretty good, the person was friendly and it felt like we got along rather nicely, like I had this interview in the bag, you know that feeling right? Anyway, towards the end they informed me about some ‘guidelines’ and that if I wanted to work in this position, I had to follow these given rules. Which seemed fine at first until they asked me if I was okay with “coloring my hair a more natural color to fit into the family friendly image of the company”. My hair color is red. I’m a ginger. A natural, born like this, ginger. I was so perplexed, asked if I had heard that correctly and as they repeated it – I got up and…
Husband and wife bosses at a small salon. I've been there for 2 years. i can count over 10 people who have been fired or quit because of these rude fckers. They are miserable that they actually have to come into the job and run their busines They sit at home and watch staff on the cameras. Stalkers. The husband is so ignorant and rude as fck to the employees, including myself. The wife just lets him do it and then makes excuses for his behavior. I have one foot out the door trust and believe.
Today an employee informed us she would be late. This employee is late quite a bit but it is due to her mother's illness and train issues (all verified via MTAs own site) Today unfortunately her mom passed away, and to escape the house (against my wishes) she came in to support her team. The HR Director wasn't happy with her being late and upon her coming in came down on her and her response was perfect. HR Director: Late again per usual. Employee: I am sorry I had an emergency. HRD: Of course you did, what is it this time? Stalled train? Emergency Brake? What excuse will you reuse? E: Actually I informed you of my mothers illness some time ago. Today she passed away but no worries she can only die once so you won't hear that excuse again. May I clock in? HRD: Oh I am sorry…is…
