I want to find a remote job, but I’m just drained

I love my work, but my job has drained me and the hybrid shift is contributing to that and my depression coming back as I have to drive 50 minutes to get to the office twice a week. That's an hour and 40 minutes of my day that I can't get back and each time I try to look for a design job similar to mine, there's next to nothing remote besides customer service and call center jobs. It's gotten to the point where I've wondered “should I just get a customer service job if it pays more?” because while I can transfer to another department that has a remote job (different from my current job but still an office job nonetheless), I have to wait until later in the year before I can actually transfer. My boss is a micromanaging ass, the commute is starting to drain me especially…

“If we don’t get paid, you don’t get paid.”

Actual quote from my boss. I’m a superintendent for an electrical contractor, messed up on my paperwork a little bit and failed to turn in a work order for a small, recently completed project. Then I proceeded to get bitched at about it, then wrapped up with this stupid comment. Then he had the balls to ask what my problem was when I didn’t have much to say following that remark. I believe he just unknowingly pushed me into the IBEW. I very nearly went union this past fall, but a substantial raise kept me around. I’m kind of over the lack of manpower, the general cluelessness from the office personnel, and stupid ass comments like “if we don’t get paid, you don’t get paid.”

From the bottom of my heart thank you everyone for helping me realize I am not alone

It's been a rough few years. Between dealing with a pandemic, lost my job and now we are all dealing with a housing/rent/inflation crisis. Before I assumed in order to “make it” you had to over work yourself. Being able to see that so many of you don't want to do that gives me hope that we can change how society sees work. Work shouldn't be something that makes a person stressed, takes them away from family time, causes people to get sick or injured if the conditions aren't great and people being taken advantage of in other wages. It may not be much, but now that “quiet quitting” is getting more popular it's encouraging to see a change like this. Life is too short to be overworked, spending almost all of your income on rent and dealing with long shifts or working holidays. Here is to hoping that more…

Can employees be written up/fired for speaking other languages while working?

I work at a retail store, and my coworker got written up for speaking her native language to other employees and customers. A lot of those customers don't speak English, so the alternative would be to ignore them. I work in BC, Canada if that makes a difference.

HR got audited

I recently got fired, didn't get paid. I was working as teachers Aide. I was promised 17 dollars an hour and was told they would take out some money for summer pay (summer vacation pay) every check. I asked the head of HR about how they were doing this whole process. (I felt they were stealing some of the money) The Lady in HR fired me short after and never received my money. About 4k before taxes they owed me. I told them, they denied everything. Even went as far as to not give me acces to my own paystubs. Never sent me my w2 either. I told her I was going to get legal representation. She said “I will not talk with any legal representation of your part.” I sent the department of labor my complaints. Fast forward to today and the Department of Labor sent out an audit…

I quit my job today and I feel so free

I’ve been working at a soul-crushing office job for the past 5 years. The pay was decent, but the hours were long, the work was boring, and the management was terrible. They expected me to be available 24/7, micromanaged every detail of my tasks, and never gave me any recognition or feedback. I felt like a robot, not a human being. I’ve been saving up for a while and decided to quit today. I handed in my resignation letter and walked out without looking back. I felt a surge of relief and joy as I left that hellhole behind. I don’t have a plan for what to do next, but I don’t care. I’m free to do whatever I want with my life now. I’m free to pursue my passions, hobbies, and interests. I’m free to travel, learn new things, and meet new people. I’m free to live on my…
