Got what I asked for
I got to quit my shitty job today for a position where the company is full of people who have worked there for decades, friends that used to work there said it was a great company to work for, I'll have benefits, AND they gave me my asking rate which in the first interview, they said they might could get me 20k less than that but weren't sure. But my final interview was with the ceo and he agreed I could get my asking wage. Woot!
This job has wrecked my mental health little by little, and I love bartending. I’m definitely looking to quit, but I need to wait for and find a comparable job opportunity before I bounce. So for now, I’ll have to make this work and study my ass off. Of course they’re not paying me to do all this, and I still have to work full time, but they’d definitely take my shifts if I don’t manage. Some bars have such toxic culture.
I've been a lurker here for a while, but I'm just so pent up and tired of it all I just had to let it out, so (very, very long) vent incoming. For reference, I'm a full time college student at my university and although I have a scholarship that pays for everything but my books and housing, it's still a nightmare. I make 13 an hour, which is better than what I was paid in my last job as a cashier in JCP. I left it because they were paying me 12 an hour when the minimum in my city was 12.50, and the hr guy didn't catch the fucking mistake until I heard one of my coworkers say 12.50 isn't enough for this bullshit and I got confused because I sure as hell wasn't getting paid. They tried to keep me for 14 an hour but I was…
Applied for a part time job
I just applied for a part time job, pays $13.00 an hour – for $13.00/hour can you justify being available 24/7? “Please indicate your level of customer service experience: 1 year or more Are you willing to work on weekends when required? Yes Would you be willing to work a 24/7 flexible schedule? Yes “
Revocation Clause?
So, I got laid off from The Carrot Company and in the separation agreement, they have a seven day revocation clause if you are over 40. How is that even legal? Wouldn’t it be age discrimination? Also, they now expect the independent contractors- the full service shoppers- to do my job WITHOUT BEING TRAINED. Yeah, I was having to train a pair today on how to do the job. They didn’t know how to bag the groceries appropriately nor how to stage them. (I took a job as a checker for the store I was working at because I am too lazy to go back to the corporate world.)
Small brewery. Itll be a while before Ill be able to hire someone at a good wage and im not willing to pay shit. I plan a bounty system for repairs. You see something? I fix. You find me an osha reg from the binder in red that I will keep yearly updated on the desk? 5 bucks instantly. I want to make a culture of safety, decent wages and flexible when you need it that people want to work for me. I know my personal checklist. Would you guys share yours of what you look for in an employer? I need to come into this with the right framework that I have a valuable job for someone, not something theyre going to be abused at.
