Apparently my therapist told me it's “wrong” to blame the economy for anything. I'm not an idiot, there are factors within my control, and factors beyond my control. If, during the great depression, I'm pretty sure it would of been easy to look around you and think “well, I'm doing my best, but it doesn't really look all that promising as a whole”? It is quite strange that many Americans seem to have this weird fetish of only being allowed to find fault within themselves, and can't look beyond to factors existing outside of their control as indicators of success or failure as well. I think it may be the reason why boomers blame younger kids on being unable to afford college. “Well I afforded it just fine”. So they look at the person as a failure rather than systematic oppression through skyrocketing tuition. Which is very stupid.
The Right to be Lazy
Published in 1883 and shockingly relevant still. It is incredible to read how much of our situation is the same as it was back then, or even worse. He discussed the mechanization of labor, and how it could have been used to reduce the need for hard work, but instead simply lowers the value of our work. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. This should be required reading for this sub.
Hard-working pays off
Episode 14 At the seaside, there was an adult selling fish at a stall. A little boy passed by, staring at the fish and drooling. The adult asked, “Little boy, do you want to eat? This fish is only 1 dollar, very cheap.” The boy replied, “I don't have any money…” The boy blinked at the adult and imitated what he had seen on the internet, on stage, in movies, TV shows, video games, and social media. He said, “You caught some great fish. This fish is so fresh, tender, and delicious. Whether steamed, braised, or fried, it will be amazing. It's hard to get fat eating alone, so why don't we share this fish together?” The adult smiled and said, “Where did you learn that from, little kid? Do you even understand what you're saying? Hahaha.” The boy blushed and said, “I don't really know what I'm saying, but…
I could take care of the property, or do whatever, I just don't want to pay rent if possible. I would get a second job but if I get a second job, only little will be left because I have to pay taxes on it and child support. Thank you for your help.
How do I give a two weeks notice?
Pretty much what the title says, I'm thinking about leaving a job that's been damaging my mental health but every time I talk to any of the older adults in my life they just tell me to stick it out. I'm assuming that it should be more formal than scribbled on a sticky note, but considering that's about how formal anything else here seems to be it's tempting. Anyways, anybody have any advice?
