In a hospital on a Saturday
Young, but already sick of it
I am a manager at a company and a couple months ago I implemented a policy that all of my employees had to leave their cell phones on outside of work and consider themselves “on call”. It was mandatory that they answer all calls from me and come into work if asked without complaint. I did not offer any additional compensation for this. I even put a sign up in the break room stating this policy. I recently discovered that one of my employees took a picture of this sign and posted it to this sub. After reading the responses I realized how wrong this policy is and have since rescinded it. Thank you for making me realize the error of my ways. I just wanted the company to be successful and set some record profits this quarter.
I work at a childcare center making $19 an hour in Boston. I looked up the laws to see who is exempt from overtime (the exemptions themselves were shocking tbh) and nothing I've found excludes teachers. My boss is also a lawyer in his spare time so I'm sure he has some bullshit legalese to claim it's legal, but….is it legal?

Hi, I'm not quite sure if this is the sub I should be posting in but I need some advice on how to tackle this situation. As the title says my boss has put the company I worked for into voluntary liquidation, I was made “redundant” two weeks ago (basically asked not to attend work and that I would receive a letter from the liquidation company in the next 5 days). After receiving my letter from the liquidation company it stated that “B” (the company I worked for) can no longer pay me and I will need to claim redundancy and lieu of wages from the government. They said they would send a code to me 7 days before the date of the company insolvency, which is fine. Yesterday I received a wage slip from B (no communication from the boss at this point) with holiday pay and what I…
Got hired for a phone job in a small office (there were only like three employees working when I interviewed.) For the record, I was hired while wearing a hoop nose ring. Hired practically 2 hours after I interviewed. The dress code sent to me is a lot of the usual conservative stuff including no unnatural hair colors, no piercings, no visible tattoos, very specific jewelry standards, jeans must be blue (??). I'm annoyed that a call center job has this specific of a dress code, coming off of another call center job where I could wear whatever the hell I wanted. I'll begrudgingly buy a clear stud for nose piercing today, but should I really even be worried about them enforcing this after a few weeks of kowtowing to that crap?
