They used to say people become more conservative as they get older. I'm finding the opposite to be true. I used to think I was doing everything right to make myself employable, but I feel more unemployable now than ever. I chose a degree with good career prospects, worked several unrelated garbage jobs (IT/Customer Service/Social Media), did national service for a summer through AmeriCorps, did undergraduate research. I've been spending all of my free-time searching, applying, and interviewing for jobs, just to get rejected and ghosted for entry level positions in my field. I just feel hopeless and worthless. I'll never be able to have a career, stuck in menial labor, never own a home or car, eternal debt, and never have a family. It's all pointless and my spirit has been crushed by the heel of capitalism.

I don’t have it in writing but when I interviewed for the position I was told all of the staff (5 of us) would rotate weekends and that each of us would be working two 10 hour shifts each on the weekends we were scheduled. Well once I got my first schedule I noticed they had be scheduled on Saturday’s and sundays every other week with one other girl and we each work 12 hours each me being 7am to 7pm and her being 7pm to 7am. I initially didn’t complain because I understood from what they told me that it would just be temporary until someone new came. I started working mid January so I didn’t see the full schedule that included everyone’s work week. Why not just make us pay back what we actually borrowed and only adjust for inflation, instead of insanely high interest rates?

Had a big shift wide meeting today at work to discuss the fiscal year and goals and numbers and dumb graphs to waste time. One of the graphs was how our finances are budgeted throughout the building services. It said worker pay takes up about $19,000,000 and benefits takes about $9,000,000 and supplies take around $3,000,000. They then said that they are in the red about $9,000,000 and need to get that number down. Felt like they were making it seem like it’s our fault our pay and benefits cost so much when they’re the ones poorly budgeting our funds.

Several years ago, I worked for a wireless phone retailer. I think we had around 60 stores. After working my way up to a regional manager of about 20 of those, I came to the realization I didn't really want to do it any more. I decided to try and run my own business. I’m an esthetician and began working with an amazing team and manager. Lots of laughs and we all work well together and get things done. I’ve been working at my current job for a year now. In the past 3 months we gained a new manager that completely shifted the vibe. For context, they are 19 with no prior spa or management experience. All they do is refresh the booking page, re-organize their desk and ask estheticians to do things that aren’t in our job description such as getting her lunch from the local pizza shop or doing receptionist/manager work. Ever since starting they created issues and have been trying to crack down on employees. I’ve been on the receiving end of most of it, and feel bullied and picked on.
