In the last 2 years I have been royally fucked by two separate jobs. I have a degree, a huge amount of work experience in my field along with personal experience. I'm not saying I'm an expert in my field but I can at least play ball with them. Job #1: State job in my field that I was immediately fired from after having a potentially fatal medical condition. My doctor prescribed meds disqualified me. (Already looked into legal action, it's a mute point) Job #2: Private company in my field of expertise. I was hired almost a year ago and since then have made the company it's 3 most successful months by $10k/each. I grew contacts, have almost single handedly run the business for several months through expansion (largely due to myself profiting the company), got a fantastic team hired, and grew the customer base immensely. The owner and…
I’ve been getting harassed by my manager for the past 2 months now at Safeway. We got into a verbal altercation and my GM wants me to write a statement on the situation. For the statement do I fill out exactly what happened THAT day or what’s been going on the past 2 months?
I live in California where it’s now legally required to have the salary on the job posting, but for this specific casino position it isn’t posted. I’ve been guesstimating the wage from their other positions and I have a feeling that they’re going to offer me a dollar or two less than what I’d like. Based on my experience, I don’t want to accept lower than the wage that I desire. Say the pay is $16/hr and I ask for $18.50. For a position at a cafe in a casino, would they even be inclined to hear me out? Or is it a waste of my time? I’ve applied to other companies but I’m still waiting on calls back. $18.50 is hardly enough to live off of in SoCal but it’s the best I can do until I graduate.
Just saying……
I joined this sub years ago and there were always two jobs mentioned when someone asks for “easy” jobs. First, night guard. Second, librarian. Well, I got offer for a night security job and first thing that came to my mind is this sub. Pay is low, of course. However, it's simple like that here in Europe. You work 12 hour shift two days in a row and then 2 days are off, up to 180 hours a month. Workplace is like a small Manhattan but without many jerks. All modern and nice. Uniforms are also cool, nothing humiliating. Basically, you stare at the screens and do nothing. With that salary I don't have to pay much, so I could save most of it. I got some offers twice as much money but ten times more work and quiet frankly, I am thinking of accepting this one. It's a mile…
Anyone remember Hank Scorpio?
I was just a kid when I first saw that episode of the Simpsons so I don't really know what work was like at the time so it's possible I just didn't get the joke at the time but I just thought about that episode and frankly it's gotten even funnier because Scorpio is probably the best boss you could get. He's friendly, encouraging, goes to considerable effort so ensure a positive work and home environment, more than fairly compensates his employees for their labour and even finds the time to personally interact with his employees despite running a worldwide criminal enterprise. He even manages to turn Homer Simpson into a productive employee who enjoys his job. At the end of the episode, despite being actively under attack from the US military, he still takes the time to have a heart to heart discussion with Homer where he encourages Homer…
