Possibly the worst contract ever?
Just a bit of background info on this post: I've been searching for a new role in creating educational resources since I was laid off from my last job over the Christmas period doing something similar. I was very good in my old position, being promoted to a quality auditor of other people's content. I've had experience teaching and tutoring too. I found an advertisement for a company offering £25 per resource made. I assumed this to be a decent enough figure, it every individual worksheet, (small) PowerPoint, homework sheet, mark scheme etc. counted as one resource. After a successful interview, I got offered the role, and I was very happy. Unfortunately, I just learned in the induction meeting that they expect me to do the following for £25: Create a PowerPoint presentation of approximately 20-40 slides. Each slide should also contain notes for the presenter/teacher. 1 worksheet of approximately…

My boss wanted to talk to me in private to give me my annual bonus and raise. The raise wasn't bad, but didn't keep up with inflation (5%). However, I became concerned when he casually mentioned that there may be layoffs in the next couple months and that it was a good thing I delayed my FMLA leave of absence so I wouldn't be out when the layoffs come. He then told me it would be a good idea to delay my leave for the next few months “to be safe.” Is this illegal? I got a glowing review, I'm always busy, and have outstanding performance. The company is targeting people who are on Awaiting Assignment (overhead) for the layoff. Could I really be caught up in the layoff if I'm out on leave? I'm taking FMLA unpaid leave for 3 months. It kept getting pushed back (twice now), but…
As in, they’ll just delete it because this place encourages people to fight against corporations. I’m not an educated person, I don’t know all the big words and I’m not good at formulating my thoughts into sentences, but y’all get what I mean right? I think this place, and others like it, are super important for morale and for encouragement. It helps people realize that they are being exploited and hopefully helps them get the courage to form unions. I dunno… I guess I’m just pessimistic and scared for the future.
My company sometimes has the evening get-togethers for colleagues to 'bond' (note the quote marks) over drinks and all those nonsense. I often say 'Pity I I can't go because I have to pick up my 2-year-old son from daycare.' I rather spend the time with my boy than fake enjoying myself while with colleagues. Anyone else here dislike such occasions too? PS: I like my job and colleagues are good, but no way am I going to spend my off-work time with them.
Im expected to buy wool suit trousers and cotton suit shirts but then could spend my day crawling under hospital beds. The guy wants us to look smart because he feels it makes us more important and stand out more. Jokes on him though because I've been wearing the same shirts and trousers for the last 4 years and just left the stains and repaird the rips and holes with a deliberatly shitty job hopefully then the fucker will buy my “smart” clothes for me.
Cooks deserve more respect.
The same people who want to call me an “unskilled burger flipper” absolutely need me to cook for them, otherwise they would fucking starve. They also wouldn’t date me either because I’m definitely not rich. But yes, I must be there to cook for them.
