Escaping a job from hell

Needed a job, found one on indeed that looked promising. High salary and all that jazz. Applied, was invited to the webinar, got thru too the second stage. Was invited to third stage on the spot. Did third stage and got hired (This was all on zoom). The job I thought I was applying to was a sales and marketing role in an office. Oh how wrong I was It was with a r/devilcorp the job was door to door sales, long af hours, cultish vibes. We would be in the office around 9, loud music practicing what we would say to customers. Lots of shouting and it seems now they were trying to pump us up for a day in the field. Then we would go to the field, about an hour or so away to walk the streets knocking on doors. In office around 9 and leave the…

death of someone close makes me even more antiwork

Work your whole life, 2 jobs for a lot of that time, just to die right at retirement. I took some time off and my job charged me for my insurance premiums for the time I took off because I couldn't get family med leave. They didn't let me know this prior. To top it off my raise for the year was pennies. I don't want this, but this is the life we live. I can barely function at my job with the grief, tied with thinking of all the things I'd rather be doing. What are your stories of grief + work?

Managers really do get paid for doing absolutely nothing

Today one of my managers was bragging about having unlimited PTO, meanwhile her employees only accrue about 1-2 hours of PTO per check. We don't get sick pay, they can deny our PTO for any reason, and whatever hours we don't use by October get erased and can't be cashed in or rolled over. I always wondered why they were never at work

STARBUCKS STRIKE, Mar. 22nd

I'm attending a Starbucks Rally at their Seattle headquarters on March 22nd. WE NEED SLOGANS. Challenge yourself to drop your best! Who knows, it might end up on national news coverage CONTEXT: Starbucks Corporate is doing a “Founders Day” event on Wednesday, March 22 to celebrate CEO and CUB (Chief Union Buster), Howard Schultz. So we’re gonna have a party that celebrates the REAL FOUNDERS of Starbucks’ progressive values–THE WORKERS. S/N: my quotes from the last rally included: “Starby's Lick Deez ” and “Starby really grinds my gears [image of Peter Griffin]”

I quit!!

Today I officially quit my job as an IT manager. I posted the situation on here before but deleted it as I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. A month ago my boss pulled me aside and said “you’re doing nothing wrong, this project is a lot more complex than we originally anticipated. If we stay on this path you’re gonna get fired, I recommend you take a demotion”. He then said take a few days to think about it. I told him that’s wasn’t a good idea because I’d just think more and more on it and thing of only the negative aspects. He said let’s talk on Monday (5 days from conversation). He preceded to ghost me for 2 1/2 weeks after countless messages and emails. I ended up having a severe panic attack and had to go to the hospital because I thought I was…

Burnt out. Not valued.

Looking for advice. My company had two mass lay offs last year. My team got affected the worst in our department as we lost 4 people. Myself and a coworker were the last two standing and split the work of 6 people between us. We were working 60 hour weeks for months to keep everything afloat and didn’t get any OT. We were offered comp days under the table, however, these days came with a lot of “rules” and we never ended up using them. We did get help and hired on a couple more people in the fall to the team, however, my supervisor hasn’t really split the work equally. We have been in busy season since November and will last until June. At this point I have been working 60-70 hours a week for a year with no end in sight and I am burnt out. Completely. I…
