Disciplinary Action for Medical Issues
Need help… Background: I have a preexisting medical condition that I occasionally have flare-ups maybe once or twice a month that causes intense pain and nausea. I have accrued negative “attendance points” due to this issue and have since received two “writeups”. One more and I'm fired. I have not been here for a full year so do not qualify for FMLA HR states the disciplinary action, despite dr notes from having to go to urgent care and visits with my dr, is justified. Details: Remote employee Live in Texas Company based out of Missouri Made supervisors aware of the condition on day one. 6 months until qualify for FMLA. Questions: Can my company actually do this? What can I do to ensure my job is safe? Do Labor Laws apply for the state the employer is based, or to where the remote employee is based? Sidenote: Never had this…

Long story short. I have worked for my current employer for about 5 years or so. I am finally making good strides to take on a much larger role with in the company. When a boss of mine recently found out they began spreading unprompted private information about me having a dui that occurred almost to two years ago to some of the higher level employees. This will hopefully not effect my chances to obtain said job but I feel like I should be more upset about this being talked about by someone in his position.
I’ve been casually job hunting since December when they demoted the hell out of me for being stressed over my dad’s third cancer diagnosis. Landed a pretty sweet job in another state and have been sorting out the move. Last night before leaving, I sent out my 2-week notice to HR and my managers. I had mentioned it to one manager and she seemed happy for me. We’re extremely swamped so I also offered to help out after my last day part-time until I physically left the state because I did like what I was doing and I like my coworkers. Rush into work this morning and have to immediately hit the ground running. Finally take my break around 12:30 and they pull me into the office to fire me. No reason given except that I’m leaving. Had to fight to get paid until what would’ve been my last day.…
I just spent over 2 hours on the phone with customer service for my internet provider, and ultimately did not get anything resolved. Every time the customer rep put me on hold and failed to remember what my issue was, I kept thinking yes queen, this job owes you nothing. Keep putting in that minimal work. If it weren't for this sub I don't think I would have had such a good experience today
So recently at work, I discovered that another colleague found out I make more per hour, when they have been there alot longer than me. I didn't tell this person directly, and they found out through indirect means. Now I'm hearing that they feel undervalued, and I'm afraid I've created an unnecessary rift in the workplace and caused trouble for store management. The wage I'm being paid is the wage I negotiated during my interview, so I don't feel guilty about that, but I do feel guilty for putting my manager in an awkward spot. I didn't mean for things to turn out like this, and the job so far has been pretty good to me. Where I live, discussing wages is a protected act, but I have no idea how they came to learn this information, as I sure as shit didn't tell them. I guess what I'm asking…
