I just got a job at a gas station, the pay's bad but it's very close by which is great for me since I dont have a car. The customers are generally very nice and it's one of the easiest jobs I've worked except for the fact we're not allowed to sit down at all. I've got foot and back problems already and the constant standing in place is only making it worse. By the end of my first day i was limping home and my back was so stiff i could barely get out of bed. By the end of my shifts I can barely do the tasks I should be doing because the pain in my feet and knees is so bad I can barely walk. What I want to know i guess is what I can do to help myself here? I've been thinking of just showing…
How Corporations Cause Train Derailments
Save for a sabbatical, then retirement .
I know this may seem so far fetched and outside of realm of possibility but when I was in my 20’s I decided that at some point, I would take time off in my late 30’s to do what I wanted. It wasn’t easy but I saved to take a sabbatical. So glad I had this plan because my dad got very sick and I was his caregiver. I was able to stop working and make the most of his time. We had some of the best adventures. He lived with me so he contributed to household expenses marginally but he had a pension and a 401K. At the very beginning of his illness, I took on consulting work which paid a good amount and I put money in accounts to pay for all the things I would need once I stopped working. When he died, I was able to…
What do I do?? Please help.
So a few days ago at work, I was called into the office and I thought I was in trouble. What has happened was the manager said he was not letting me go. But to go work at the other Hotel for awhile. So that’s where I went yesterday. The other hotel said they do not need me. So I tell my old Boss they don’t need me. And what to do. All he says is he’s trying to find somewhere else. I asked again this morning. Did not get a response. So now I’m worried that I have no work and I’m out of work. Not getting an answer is driving me insane. I also asked my aunt who I worked with. She does not answer me either. So what do I do? Idk if I’m fired or laid off.
I have worked for a corporate retail entity on and off for the past 10 years. I would leave the company before a big move and reapply at the next location I was going to be near. The transfer process was such a headache that still to this day they would rather have you quit and pay to train you again for the same position in a new store. The company provides health insurance to us and about 5 or 6 years ago told me my menstrual cycle each month was causing them inconveniences with me calling out 1 or 2 days a month. They insisted I see a doctor for these issues if I continued to work for them. I went to 3 different doctors trying to get someone to help me with balancing my hormones but each insisted they can not help me balance my hormones if I…
I saw the post about the DQ shift manager trainee getting crapped on for missing work during bad weather. It boiled something in me because I went through a very similar thing that I don't think anyone should be shamed for. Now I understand weather can be unpredictable so obviously most businesses won't close too far in advance, that's okay. But it's pretty stinky when the weather is actively proving to be dangerous and the concerns get brushed off by the higher-ups. And funnily enough, it seems like I only hear these stories from people who work non-livable wage jobs (and yes, I'm calling it non-livable instead of minimum). So here's what happened to me. I'm a shift manager at retail store. The very niche kind of store where they don't really sell any essentials. I was already at the store when we had a winter storm start to come…
what’s okay to ask in an interview?
I had a phone interview with a company that sells cosmetics. During the interview the lady asked me what my age was and if I had any children. From my understanding, these questions aren't supposed to be asked?? I didn't disclose anything with her but instead asked her if this had any relevance to the position I was being interviewed for (which is front desk receptionist) especially the question concerning my age. She told me that they have employees from all ages and whatnot but I still felt kinda weird about it. She then continues to ask me if I'm used to being on my feet bc as at their company they believe in having fast access to the customer so they don't have any chairs available for the receptionist. Which to me sounded very stupid. I'm used to being on my feet for hours but at least in my…
