Everything about our economy depresses me. Can someone please share a story – ANY STORY about a time when they actually felt appreciated or taken care of at work? Or even a story where you pulled one over on The Man and got what you deserved at the expense of some corporate asshat. And maybe include some businesses I can actually feel good about patronizing because they treat their employees like actual humans.
I began working at this particular senior care facility 3 weeks ago and I already want to quit. Everyday that I have worked so far I have had to deal with the lazy staff this facility refuses to fire. Due to the burnout within the healthcare system management will overlook problems pertaining to certain employees because they can’t afford to fire anyone. This creates a cycle of the good employees leaving due to the laziness of the other employees. I worked 4 12hr shifts this past weekend, and it was a nightmare. Friday the CNA who was supposed to be on my hall to help me no call no showed, leaving me over 30 residents to tend to alone. I was only able to complete the bare minimum. I work for an Outreach team in Philadelphia. We facilitate the transfers of individuals into rehab, detox, shelters, and etc. I love what I do, even though I witness horrific things on the daily. I have a second job on the weekends from 7am to 3pm. My Outreach position wants me during that slot on Saturday. When that happens, I switch times at my other job to 2pm-10pm to fit them in. My Outreach team consist of 4 people including myself because of the turnover rate. My team are my friends and we all collaborate on making the schedule that’s comfortable for all of us. I was fortunate enough to have my team give me weekends off, as they rather be off during the week. Everyone’s happy.. except my boss. She called my co-supervisor threatening to change the schedule if he doesn’t start putting me back on weekends. I don’t…
