I was recently promoted at my job from an entry level position to my supervisors previous job. I verbally accepted the position without signing any paperwork about a month ago(huge red flag, I know) I was told at the time that they would have to find and hire a candidate for my current role before officially starting training in my new role. The role has not been filled yet. Now I’m finding myself doing a little bit of both jobs with the pay of my starting position.
So I'm in the USA and a family member who works higher up in the federal gov I found out today they are an hr employee. They work WAY over their 40 hours a week. In some cases sometime in the in the AM hours and expected to start work again 6 or 7AM. This is nothing new and has been going on for years. They are closer to retirement (I think 10 years or less). So maybe this is why they don't want to rock the boat. Anyways, when I found out about this I mention how the gov was doing wage theft. They got seriously pissed at me and said I was sheltered. That if you fight it you better have all the money you want to live off of for the rest of their life. On one hand I think they should go after the gov.…
Anybody? 40+ hours a week is just too much. How is doing something 8 hours a day 5 days a week normal? Sometimes it’s not even 40 but 50, 60 or even 80. Why can’t the work week be 25 hours a week with no loss in pay? I just find that 40+ hours a week is way too much. I find that part time working is way better even more so if it’s something you love doing. It’s a great balance of working and having a life. An ideal schedule would be Monday to Wednesday and get 4 days off a week. Perfect work life balance in my opinion. So does anybody here work part time because working full time sucks? How do you manage with bills and other things? What do you do in your free time?
It’s rough out there.
