Technically I’ve been at my job for 5 years. I left for a year then went back because while working at another company I found out the grass isn’t any greener. 🥲

I smoke to help ease anxiety and deep depression, it helps cuz I'm still here. But I use UPASS for all tests. This time I got the bottle too hot and my report came back with the pH balance off. The recruiter says “sorry, try again in 6 months” but a day and a half later I get the “congratulations, be here monday to start!” Email. Maybe the guy that interviewed me really liked me cuz I told the truth that I want to show up everyday and work and not get personal with people- just work. Fck it! I wanna go and act like I'm supposed to be there! The money is too good. I mean what's the worst that could happen? Them telling me to leave?

I'm a surgery resident in Germany. Our hospital is private, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS filled to the last bed. Sometimes we even ask patients to stay at a hotel nearby if we know beds will be empty the next day. 150 patients roll in and out everyday it's very very overwhelming. It took me a while but I've finally gotten the hang of the work pace and i love my job. Wednesday i felt myself getting sick and asked for Thursday off. This is always a conversation to be had with the administration because we are criminally understaffed and one absence messes up the pace of maximum cash flow into the hospital. The team leader called me and said there's no replacement you have to come. I tried to explain that I have symptoms and it'll worsen. He said this is not a game you have to work. I didnt argue…

Literally told me how impressed they were with me and how much value I'd add, then offered me the minimum possible. Luckily in the position to be able to turn them down.

Is it wrong to require employees to find someone to cover thier shift to allow then to call out or take a day off. Also shouldn't you get paid for the time you spent “scheduling”. Many years ago I worked a serving job and came down with a virtigo. I was dizzy nauseous and couldn't walk. Boss told me I had to come in unless I found someone to cover my shift. Well I could barely see straight enough to dial the numbers. Not to mention I didn't have everyone's number to call. In the end I drove to work stumbled in and collapse in a booth. Boss got mad at me for even coming in cuz I looked terrible and sent me home. No write ups or anything else. But it could of been all been avoided if the manager just found someone to cover my shift. Thoughts?
