At times, I feel as though I am aboard a sinking ship with no ability to do anything. I don't like the feeling of a lack of control in my own life. It makes me want to go off grid and enjoy solitude or good company. I don't want to play this game with mortgages or loans or interest rates. I'm sick of being in a constant tug of war with speculative investors and bad leaders (political, private, any leadership), pushing up the cost of essential goods like food, water, housing, transportation, energy costs, medical care, and a good quality of life. I don't want to tolerate constant disrespect or micromanagement in a workforce. I don't want to work harder to pay for rising costs, because that will probably just enable and signify that prices can be raised more. I don't want to have to pay taxes when they are…
My mom has a shoulder injury from her job and has been on workers comp for 5 months. She told me about how her boss has been calling her to come back to work but my mom tells them that she needs to finish all her doctors appointments and physical therapy. Today my mom said her adjuster said she needs to return to work and she hasn’t started physical therapy yet. She still has appointments coming up in December and they said they’ll pay her until then but after that she’ll have to go back to work. I have no idea how any of this works but can they say that? My mom still experiences pain in her shoulder and hasn’t started physical therapy. EDIT: Thank you for your comments! I believe they will just put her on light duty as well to accommodate for her.
I do most of my current work through freelance and freelance sites. Today I got invited to interview for a short term data entry job. I had the availability and the skills that were being looked for so I inquired for more info. Now a little backstory before this next part. I have some pretty serious back issues that make it so it’s hard for me to sit in an office chair for long periods of time, so I tend to do my work where I am the most comfortable. If I don’t have to be on camera, sometimes that’s my couch, my recliner, or my bed. During meetings and interviews, if I’m unable to get comfortable in the office chair, then at minimum I always do my best to sit with a neutral background behind me. View from shoulders up, looking professional even if I’m not sitting in an…
Genuine question here. I am 21 years old with 2 years lab research experience, 2 years as a construction worker, and 2 years as a cashier (been working since 15). I’ve always felt underpaid at a consistent $10/hr across all 3 jobs. I will be graduating with a masters in biomedical sciences this coming May and have been looking for a job and yet I still can’t find crap that isn’t more than $20/hr and doesn’t require a certificate or specific experience. The certificates take months of classes to get and don’t feel worth it. I don’t understand why I can’t find a job where I can get paid more with a masters than someone with an associates. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am in Alabama, USA if it matters.

I knew that where I am paramedics only get paid about 19 an hour which is insultingly low for the area we're in, I said to the person who told me this a while back that they should strike. Then they told me they couldn't because they're seen as essential services and would be forced back to work if they tried. In a time when inflation is at a record high, the price of living is higher than ever, and there's a shortage of EMS workers they want to force people to work? Everyone should quit and see how horrible things get before the bosses pull their heads out their asses and pay these people what they're worth. Also, how ironic is it that they're labelled essential workers but they're paid marginally better than a McDonald's worker, like what a slap in the face. “You are important but we'll pay…
So is this what it’s coming to?
All the wealthy are holding the bags, not much left for anyone else. So then then they start making abortion illegal, upping the population, making more mouths to feed. So, less money, spread thin. Let's add globalization and nationalization to the list where companies go to states or countries with less tax, pay workers less, laying off thousands in the process and getting tax write offs from the conservatives. Again less money, spread even more thin. Let's rip away any hope of equal treatment in the country further destroying education opportunities, limiting job opportunities keeping people poor. I'm sorry this just feels like slavery with extra steps. We're living a cartoon and I can't even say it as a joke. This is about where we're at. Just ranting on how I'm frequently reminded my crap pay is “nothing to laugh at.” Far below cost of living in my considered middle…
