Hey guys, so I just got the boot from my job for ordering Hogwarts Legacy. I know, I know – JK Rowling is really transphobic and it's messed up that I supported her by buying this game. But I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, and when I saw the game was coming out, I just couldn't resist. I didn't even think about the consequences of my actions until it was too late. I get it, my actions might have been inappropriate and my employer had the right to fire me, but it feels so unfair. I mean, I didn't even get a warning or anything, just straight to the firing. It's a tough pill to swallow, but I'm hoping that by sharing my story, it'll make others think twice before blindly supporting someone with such harmful views. I mean, I get it – Harry Potter was a huge part of…
Anyone else here have a boss that made you dread performance evaluations? When I was an RA at my undergrad institution, we had like four per year from the RD, one from the residents, and one from your fellow staff members. It was torturous. My RD was a hardass and would blow up minor missteps to look like major infractions. I haven’t been an RA for almost five years now, but still have some PTSD from the scrutiny. Can anyone else relate? ️
Co – Worker forced into being fired
Had a buddy that called in a fair amount. Our place resets the counter on the year, so the first 3 call ins after Jan 1st are protected. Buddy calls in one day to let management know he will be late, and they say he cant be late, he either shows up on time, or misses the whole shift. So he missed the shift. Then he was fired for that. My question is, can they do that? like is that against his rights as a worker for them to bypass the protection? or just unethical? or neither? Would you raise this concern to higher management or leave it be? all answers will be helpful
“The Lift” should be required watching.
[Edit for word error!!! Its called the PLATFORM not THE LIFT sorry!!) Its about a bunch of people that go “fuck you i have mine” and get tortured for it. Its a great moral of the story!! It also shows in stunning detail exactly how this society operates.
I really hate filling out self appraisals. I aways have. I've been doing then for 20 years and I've hated it every time. It's a ton of work and it either gets binned or managers basically take your work and tweak it to give you a “review”. I've had managers say “so you think you did well this year can you explain why you think so?” Are you kidding me? You want me to review myself and find a bunch of faults for you to knit pick? Pass thanks. It's your job to review my performance, not mine. Not to mention I told you why in the review. Better yet just keep your fake generated criticisms to your self. I have never come out of a review feeling good and ready to work harder next year. To me it seems like it's more about finding ways to get rid of…
Got fired for not fitting in
There's a lot of detail but I'll keep it short. I'm a bartender and worked hard. Did all the things with only one mistake the whole time (9oz wine pour instead of 6). The place is so packed all the time you don't really have to use social skills with the customers. At the end of every shift there's a good hour where all the bartenders socialize and I didn't really participate because I wasn't interested in being friends with them. Mainly because they were all alcoholics, were drunk every shift, were all about 5 years older than me and party people that were too cool. I don't drink like that maybe once a week usually a couple times a month and I'm a little nerdy but i have a lot of passion in mixology and creating good drinks in a timely manor. The other bar tenders talked shit to…
Hope this is the right place for this
I apologize if this is the wrong place, but last year in February I had a procedure done that my work insurance said it would cover. I kept getting bills and went back to the physician to make sure my insurance was provided correctly the first few weeks. I’m just now, 11 months later, getting calls from debt collectors saying I’m thousands in debt. I’ve called my insurance and they’re now saying that I owe the money and wont explain why I’m suddenly not covered. I refuse to pay these bills, will this affect my credit? I’m going tomorrow to discuss with a lawyer, I’m just very overwhelmed. I’ve discussed with HR and they said I just need to somehow find the money and pay it.
