hi y'all, seeking any input and advice with a work and compensation issue: my work has an internal policy that any overtime must be preapproved before working that overtime. I worked overtime numerous days in a 2 week period totaling just 5 hours. my supervisor chose to approve 1.83 hours from one day worked and disapprove the rest, though that instance was not pre-approved. this seems arbitrarily decided and is confusing. additionally, I was not communicated to and found out after receiving a smaller paycheck than expecting and speaking with the payroll individual. the advice I am seeking is whether withholding pay from 5 hours of work is illegal, despite the internal policy regarding pre-approved overtime. my supervisor acted with the power to invalidate certain hours worked and the payroll person said they can't pay me unless my supervisor approves my hours worked.
Dress codes suck the life out of working
I work at a large loungewear store with nationwide locations and I love it for the most part. My coworkers are super nice and our manager is super understanding but corporate just recently changed our dress code and it fucking sucks so bad. Now we can ONLY wear white or black, when we use to be able to at least wear what we sold. Plus we can no longer wear any jeans… this after the last policy said any jeans we did wear had to be from either of our sister locations where they are about $60-100. I literally bought clothes from our store because I thought they would be nice work clothes. Now i’m stuck wearing old black formal pants that barely fit because i can’t afford new ones and have to recycle the same two outfits because i don’t own anything just black and white. It’s just so…
My final f*cking day In the job from hell I finally am quitting tomorrow. And I am beyond relieved, I quit and gave my manager only seven days to replace me. When I informed her she was surprised and she tried to grill me a lot asking me why I was quitting well the reason I was quitting was her. But instead I said “i want a break” she hits me with the – “what do you mean by break”. She went on to tell me how much time she invested in me, and how she was instrumental to my success in the organisation. In the end she tried to reason with me, telling me she couldn’t wrap her head around my decision. And then lastly asked me if I was quitting because I’m getting married. (Lmao there’s more to a woman’s life than marriage) After I sent in the…
The debauchery we’ve been driven to…
I’ve been working weekends for the better part of 2022 at my hotel. It’s been a lot this past summer, if I’m being honest. I’ve spent the whole summer either trudging through weekends solo “because we’re understaffed” or trying to train new employees how to do the job while also trying to do my own. It’s a fast paced, high stress environment that has made me question my sanity on more than a few occasions. I kind of rock it though? The guests seem to love me at least, if the customer feedback is anything to go by. I’m a bit of a ham and enjoy performing for them at the front desk, telling them about the town, whipping out jokes to get them laughing, and making recommendations to make sure they have a good time while they’re in town with us. This seems to have caused a point of…
I am a contractor with a 3rd party hired by Google. So I work for Google but i’m not hired by Google (just for those who’s confused) now here post pandemic they want us back in the office, but cavalierly told us that we won’t have any of the benefits we used to have due to Google making a (even stronger) separation between Full Time and (Temps/contractors) They pulled our access to shuttle busses, we are not longer allowed to eat with the Googlers (read: pack your own lunch box imbecile) no access to snack/cafes, revoked access to gyms/pools essentially all benefits are gone. On top of that they are sending us to new random offices, outside of Google campus. My team was sitting tensely awaiting the news of a pay increase to match the loss of benefits but nope. Google sucks and i’m going to Facebook.
Maybe it happens, maybe not. I bet most folks have a plan in mind for what to do if they company they work for says, “No.” Why are they always so surprised when people quit???
Backtracking benefits?
My workplace offers employees a free item when they hit 90 days ($100-$200 value) and another item when they reach 1 year ($1000-$4,000 value). Several of my coworkers were able to get their 1yr item but a few were waiting until they move (it’s heavy) to place the order. Well, now the company has put this on hold but did NOT make an announcement. So my coworkers have been denied their item when they went to place the order with the area manager. We understand that times are tough right now. But can they just do that? It was outlined in our benefits when we get hired. There hasn’t been an update to the benefits since January 2022 and even then, this program was still included. I don’t want to go into too much detail about what the items are because my employer is active on Reddit and I don’t…
