Hi guys, a little bit of a rant over here: I don't have any health problems, I'm not homeless, I got a tiny little bit of cash saved (25 000)…but that's it. Life is so incredibly expensive that any setback could mean homelessness for me, my wage is miserable as an Italian (if there are other Italians on this subreddit, they'll tell you how it is, it's bad), my parents can't help me as they're just as broke as I am. Also I just broke up with my girlfriend at 33, and I feel so alone… It feels like I have nothing, that working is useless, that I'm not building anything, AND I won't inherit anything. The worst thing about it is that, living in Europe, having degrees doesn't boost your income that much, which is the case I'm in. I know I know, we got a much better social…
Combining PTO and sick days is cruel
I’ve had Covid for the past week and it just got me thinking about how it’s so incredibly common for jobs to offer PTO in one big bank of hours instead of having designated sick time. It’s the end of the year so I’ve already used up my paid time (2 weeks of time roughly). If I wanted to be prepared for something like this I would have had to not taken basically any vacation all year in preparation for getting sick. It shouldn’t be up to the employee to ration their time like this, everyone should be allowed to take their vacation stress free without the looming worry of “wasting” their days in case illness comes along.
Flight attendants
How is the airline legally allowed not to pay flight attendants until the doors of the aircraft are closed. They are working before people step on the plane. I’m not an attendant but feel bad for them.
Pretty much as the title says. I have posted other problems about my boss but man this guy is just the worst. I found out on Wednesday last week that i was going to have to be the only one “On Call” for the company over the holiday since everyone else took time off. Now i didn’t take time off because he would not let me take more than 5 vacation days a year (even though we have “Unlimited” vacation). Believe me i tried and he refused it. My company was supposed to have Friday and Monday off as the observed Christmas vacation days. Well since i was the only one on call i got called in literally every single day and had to work 8-10 hour days to fix all the problems my entire group would normally be responsible for. I have only been at this job 6 months…
Gave in my notice a few days ago to a job I've been at for two weeks. The contract stated no notice period, but they want my working the shifts I've been on for the next two weeks. I'm really unwell, fever and a cold, and the job requires working with food, and I'm going in today because they would not let me say no. Really fucking pissed off, I'm so tired. Taking a fuck tonne of valium with me because I have no idea how I'm going to survive as I have pretty bad mental issues and my anxiety is crippling. Every shift I've worked at this job so far has led me into a panic attack and breakdown which is why I'm leaving. I will be working a hospitality place alone in the middle of a capital city on the day after boxing day, right next to the…
A greedy boss makes the worst sign
So, for context, during covid I, along with the entire company I currently work for, worked from home and helped sustain their business. WFH benefited a lot of us, either with childcare, being able to exercise during the day, whatever… As we came out of lockdown, the owners/directors insisted we all return to the office full time. No hybrid working. This caused quite a bit of animosity and lots of people left because of it but the company stuck to their policy. I only hung on because being in a relatively senior position, my options to move were limited. Fast forward year, I've landed a new job which is a demotion but money balances out with the additional pension they pay and most importantly they do Agile working, WFH 3 days a week. Anyway, we were discussing this with family on Boxing Day and my MIL was extremely critical of…
Shoutout to the Festive Workers!
Which is amazing, since this is the first time ever he’s gotten a bonus from this job after working his ass off for them for over 5 years. Oh and no, the company owner/boss didn’t give people candy, it was another new coworker who simply felt bad about her fellow workers.
I have had some terrible interviews, but this one is easily one of the top, considering I had to take time off from my decently paying job to be at the interview for this developing-country-level civil servant salary position. So apparently I have submitted my resume to this public university in my country for the lecturer position over email like half a year ago, cant quite remember it, and they never got back to me until like last week. Told me they didnt have any openings in my major back then, but they do now, and sent me a simple interview request email asking me to prepare a demo class. My interview was initially scheduled for last week, but they told me it was cancelled and informed me of the new interview schedule yesterday – a day before the interview. So a bit of background, I recently got an MBA…
