How would you tell a boss you’re leaving for their competitor?

A friend of mine is a barista and she found a new coffee shop in town that she prefers to the one she works at. She talked to those owners and they want her on, better pay, better hours, better environment, but both owners have a really good relationship and she doesn't want to make it look like the new owners stole her. How would y'all go about letting the boss know she's leaving and moving to the other shop? Also, the current boss goes to her church which she feels like things would get awkward there, but I told her that feelings have the potential to be hurt somewhere so to just do her, but she wants to kindly let them know. Thoughts?

Just remembered the time my boss hired my subordinate for a higher wage than me.

I moved cross country for my husbands work in jan 2019 and applied as a “property manager” at a real estate company. The ad read more as a regional/ asset manager so the job title alone was a bit confusing. When I met with the owner of the company he pivoted and described a new position as a community manager for 3 buildings for a new portfolio they were about to get. Since the position and portfolio were new I didn’t entirely understand the position as he didn’t have it fully fleshed out but accepted it. A couple days in I figure out this position is in no way right for me since I has always worked more in a back of the house capacity, this was face to face interactions and leasing etc. I convinced the guy who was basically the owners right hand man to let me have…

I work in a team of underperformers and the manager and Leads cannot motivate them. This means the work filters up to the few motivated individuals in the group. I’m over it.

I'm not going to call it “quite quitting”, I am going to call it “growing a spine”. I currently work in a job that is both my career and a hobby. I've found that the individuals I work with are totally switched off, they've been in their roles for 10-30 years. They do the bare minimum (or less), have no interest in skilling up to today's standards, and do not care for the work (Most have been shuffled from unrelated teams through either mergers or because they were problematic). For the past 3 years, I've put in >100% effort and my manager has identified this in my yearly performance assessments: I help other colleagues do various tasks (some of which they should know) I'm constantly the point of contact for colleagues' questions I have Senior members of my defer to me for help and sent me tasks that are “too…

In your opinion or experience, do companies that have morally grey businesses or business practices tend to treat their employees worse as well?

For instance, if you were working for a fracking company or a cigarette company.

why do employers want to remain anonymous/confidential on job postings?

i don’t know if anyone will have a direct answer for me, but i’ve been coming across this a lot on indeed. the name of the company will not be listed and it will say something like ‘confidential’. is this suspicious or am i overthinking it?

School is just training the students to comply with capitalism to train them to comply

It was all obedience training: telling us how to dress, act and to stand in line. Teachers reason for telling us how to dress is because this is what we will be expecting from our jobs. This was a lecture topic from many educators is that we need to listen because this is how work will be. The first thing I remember from government class is the teacher telling us how to vote and voting any other way is wrong. The school system needs to change so that students can actually learn something other than to be capitalists or that stupid state test that they stress us over.

taxes taking too much of my paycheck

I'm not sure if I filled out my tax information incorrectly or something but my gross pay is 17 to 18 an hour but my take home is only like 13 sometimes 12 dollars an hour. That seems unusually high to me and I'm just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

Boss calls me after 5 days dealing with covid. Compares my recovery time to his 6 year old son.

TL:DR Boss calls me after 5 days with covid, asks why I haven't recovered yet, comparing recovery time to his 6 year old son. Is he calling me out as a bitch? —- Two weeks ago I came down with covid. I attended my workplace the day prior and I could feel myself coming down with something. Considering people in my household were currently isolating with covid, I knew I had it. Tested as soon as I got home from work, and it confirmed my suspicion. I let my supervisor know my result and HR had informed him due to Australian covid protocols I'm required to isolate for 5 days. It hit me pretty hard. The first two days were hell. Constant temperature fluctuations and I couldn't control my body shaking. On the Fifth day I was still feeling pretty flat and still had symptoms. I tested anyway and was…
