Hello! Question for the sub. From an anti-work perspective, why is HR so universally hated? I understand that the company is essentially their primary customer, whereas other roles are closer to the product output or consumer touchpoint. But this mostly seems like semantics in my opinion. At the end of the day, efforts made by any and all employees uphold the company as a total entity and serve the company's bottomline. Is it really more reprehensible to work for HR as opposed to other jobs?
my bosses are hypocrites
so i work at a daycare as a teacher and literally everywhere, bathroom, break room, hallways etc. there are posters saying DO NOT COME IN IF YOURE SICK. so last night around 10 pm my stomach starts hurting very badly and i start vomiting violently and basically it’s coming from both ends. i end up staying awake all night and by 4 am i have decided that i am going to call out. however, today was the last day before our christmas break and if you didn’t show up you wouldn’t be paid for the break. i’m a teacher so i don’t make much money so getting paid for the break is crucial for my survival. my boss told me to come in anyway and if they feel i need to go home they will send me. so i did just that. i went in, clocked in, and stayed in…
A very fond memory I have growing up, was seeing my dad come home from his 14 hour shift as a truck driver for a certain food corporation and receiving a call later in the evening from his coworkers. Warehouse guys, drivers, admin, even corpo., they all would call him. And they would just discuss whatever BS thing that would happen that day. The more I think about those years, the more I realize that is hard to come by today. Talking about payroll, HR, Management, etc. They would go over it all on the phone. And when people were wronged, they all would talk and decide if they were to back out or speak up. And they followed through. An Union would've been eradicated instantly at his job, but they did what they could. Try connecting with your coworkers. Even if it's a meme or “Happy Holidays”. Sometimes you…
My girlfriend also got in an accident and totaled her car (she is ok, her radiator is utterly ruined though) the day before as she was driving home from the grocery store with of all of his favorite foods. My boss was well aware of both of those before he sent me that email. At 5pm. The last day of work before Christmas.
It's been over 5 years since I last received any kind of wage increase or review at my current position. They seem to just expect me to keep chugging on with the same compensation as I made in 2017. So I've been applying for other opportunities. It's been a while since I had to do this, and it's much more of a pain in the ass that I remember. Everywhere I apply, I'm getting rejection letters that tell me they've found “applicants with more relevant experience.” I think the one that made me realize this is a broken process was a couple weeks ago. I applied to a large company in my city. I got a form rejection letter in their quirky “gosh golly we'll keep your resume on file just in case!” whimsyspeak. I'm not even sure if that means anything, and I know I shouldn't take it personally,…
Don’t get coffee in a blizzard
I work at a corporate coffee shop that serves what is possibly the most mediocre cheap coffee on the planet. Today, I worked window, which is typically my favorite position, but we have a blizzard warning in effect and the temperature was between -7 and -8 degrees (not considering the windchill). The kicker: I couldn't wear a jacket. We are only allowed to wear company jackets which we have to pay for out of our paychecks and I already can't afford food right now. I did wear a long sleeve shirt under my uniform, but that really isn't enough. We have a heater above our window but that only does so much and my coworkers will turn it off because it gets too hot for them. The store was practically dead the whole time (other than the drive through) so they definitely lost more profit than they brought in. I…
