I work pest control. I’m constantly overbooked. Everyday. When I was hired I was told 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, one Saturday a month during slow times and twice a month during busy times. I’m constantly booked with over 10.5 hours worth of scheduled work daily. I complain about it and my new boss says I’m required to work 9.5 hours a day now. I’m ready to start walk and so are many others.
End of year vacation
I'm going to state first and foremost… I view my position (now) as privileged even though I've gone though some horrendous abuse to get there…. Moving along… So a few weeks back our group lead told us the company is enforcing mandatory vacation for everyone on the last two weeks of the year. I thought this was amazing and was really excited to get some extra time off to be with my family! It's been a rocky year with starting a new job and some of the things that go on really stress me out as industry best practices are not followed. so getting some time off would be great to relevel myself. Well that feeling was short lived lol turns out this is being taken out of our PTO allotment and since I had to use all my two weeks to care of sick kids this year I have…
It seems like every job that I’m qualified for only pays $15 an hour. I don’t have any “passions” job-wise my only passions at the moment are getting the fuck out of my parents house but rent is too much where I live i will never be able to afford that on minimum wage. Am I fucked?
I've worked for my current company for quite a long and I do not many issues as other people on this sub have and I receive a very good benefits package as well. The only issue: my salary has not been increased to be competitive like other engineers and to make that happen I have to find another job. HR blocked my request and I always have a bad feeling about the HR director who I think is kind of secretly racist as I am from a foreign country. After 1 week of searching, I got an offer from one of the top companies in the world. I will turn in my 2-week notice and I know my employer will counter-offer but I will reject their counter-offer. It is not because I think they will find a replacement to replace me or anything that matters, although I never think I…
Company Christmas Breakfast Sham
This morning, the company I work for had a Christmas breakfast for the employees. The owner and CEO were giving speeches, touting how much money we made them this year. Something to the tune of $30 Million plus. Then, we all got our bonus checks. $25. I got a Christmas bonus of $25. It is taking everything I have to not go home right now. I am so upset. Why do we work so damn hard for these people, and get absolutely nothing in return?! It's a morale murderer and it's honestly insulting. $25. That's birthday money from Grandma.
Told I was ‘Inconsiderate’
I work for a non-profit organization as a full-time hourly employee, non-exempt from overtime. We had a holiday party on Friday after I had already clocked in my 40 hours. Attendance was voluntary, and so I chose to go because it would be fun! I did not help set-up as I was never asked to, and I have made it known that I do not volunteer for my job – we have had problems in the past due to inaccurate compensation. I got there around 6pm, maybe a little later, and left around 8:30pm – party was supposed to end at 8pm. On my way out I said goodbye to my coworkers and asked if there was anything I needed to bring back with me. They said goodbye, hugs, lovely and they didn't give me anything to bring back. I left with my fiance and friend. Come Monday, about an…
Required company party then excluded
My company did a holiday dinner which they strongly encouraged us to all attend as it was an appreciation event for a specific department but “we are all a team.” At the dinner they handed out gift cards worth $575 to every employee and every department except for mine. Those employees were then entered into a raffle and were gifted Apple laptops, iPads, ps5, Xboxes, $1000 gift cards, trips, etc. so not only was the supposed department being appreciated, every department was given gifts and gift cards except mine. We were then told we were all a team and appreciated blah blah blah. Management was even kind enough to gift our janitorial guys who work for a contracted company gift cards. We sat there kinda stunned and embarrassed as it felt awkward to be excluded. The employees rewarded are among some of the highest compensated employees. When management was approached…
Employer Phone Stipend
At a new job that offers a phone stipend for “up to $75/month”. With all taxes/fees, my bill actually comes out to approx $75/month ($45 for the plan, $30 in taxes/fees). My employer is saying they will only cover the $45 portion for the plan itself, not for the taxes/fees. After reviewing the companies policy, it makes no reference to not covering the taxes/fees. It seems to be intentionally vague. Is this legal? Anyone have similar experiences?
Does anyone else notice that businesses are starting to request/assign several hours of free labor during the interview process? Are we being exploited here? I work in the digital marketing field, and I was recently laid off due to 'lack of work'. Nothing to do with my performance but the company I was working for simply didn't have enough clients to afford my salary any longer. It's pretty standard to ask for work examples, which require little to no preparation. But lately I've noticed that about 80% of the jobs that I have applied to/interviewed for have asked me to create very specific website audits, marketing strategies etc., followed by a professional presentation between 30-60 minutes long. I was skeptical at first and have been going along with it because I need the work. Still, it doesn't sit well with me that I am doing up to 10 hours of…
