Expressing my disappointment
I work for a small pizza shop, good ownership, I’ve known this family for 10+ years; my brother got me the job back then. I’ve been back at the shop delivering for the past 2.5 years and it is a job I really am grateful for. Unfortunately I have lost two family members in as many years. My step father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2 months ago and he passed last Sunday. The following Tuesday, I tested positive for Covid. All the while, my employer expresses their condolences and keeps saying “if there’s anything you need, let me know”. Obviously I appreciate flexing schedules around so i can have this time off but anyone at the shop would gladly deliver, good money. My boss was also supportive of this. The other middle manager, we can call him…
I’ve always been an “anti-work” and “screw the management” type of person… but I love my job.. and my boss. I love going to work and the people I manage. But I feel like I have to be missing something? What do I need to be on the look out for? What type of behavior/actions should I avoid to stop me from turning into a bad manager?
It appears that we are on a fast track to automise the arts and knowledge work, skills like programming may become obsolete soon. At least that’s what ChatGPT and other models strongly suggest. The discussion I experience evolves around who will become obsolete next. Why is it that people are scared when we (as humans) make a step towards engineering away another profession. Why don’t people cheer because we freed yet another clique of their obligations? We may wanna modify the system – but who am I telling…
Said during a department meeting with the VP when he was discussing our remote work policy. I wanted to choke her with my vomit.
