Note: I’m in Pennsylvania. I work in non-profit education and my employer won’t get me (or any of my coworkers) a staff phone or pay my phone bill. I kid you not, hundreds of students have my phone number. I was in charge of intakes and orientation, so students not only have my number, they give it out for people who are interested in classes. For example: I have a student in another country asking for classes and wants me to teach them. Students call and text at all hours of the day. Our population (primarily refugees and some immigrants) generally uses WhatsApp. I used my phone because I truly believe it is not fair for students to be unable to access our classes due to my director’s decision. Looking back, I know I enabled my director, but I can’t change the past. However, I’m changing careers, so I’m teaching…
Dodged bullet :workplace and boss
Went for an interview today. Waited for around 6 hours just to attend the pre scheduled interview as people are obviously busy. Last round was with the MD ( owner), and here's his work philosophy, 1) Working over the normal working hours i.e. 9 hours everyday, should not be questioned. 2) I don't like and want people who care about stupid things like work life balance. 3) I don't know the meaning of toxic work culture. 4) You should work from Monday to Saturday and Sunday mornings too, do the obligatory household time management and house chores on sunday evening. 5) I don't like people who take leaves. I don't want you calling me with reasons like your parents are unwell, you have the flu, or stomach aches. 6) What do you mean by burnout? You really have a weird vocabulary. In my 30 years of experience I have never…
It’s plain as day what was going on but they did write me up for a bunch of shit multiple times since then to cover their tracks so to speak. This is a family owned business but not small. The VP left our direct manager in a position of power for 10 weeks after giving him information about unethical and possibly illegal activities. I work in the life and safety industry, fire protection specifically. So it’s a big deal if you don’t do your job right. VP “said he’s a terrible manager and can’t preform any of his duties any longer. Then not only left him as manager but allowed him to write me up for a lost tool. Then gave him a promotion out of middle management but my ex manager declined due to ego and left the company. Since my coworker and I filed the formal complaint at…
Title says it all, I’m kind of just ranting. I grew up celebrating Christmas but I find it annoying that my boss “volun-tells” me these holiday events would make out department (and her) look really good to the higher up ppl if we attend events. And they tell coworkers that do attend that they’re “noticing” their attendance at said events. I’m tired. I work like 8a-6p and then there’s an event today 8-11p and tomorrow a parade we have to like decorate shit and walk around and idk… that’s from 12-3p and then a party after that from 4-6p. That’s the whole goddamn weekend! Probably just not gonna go lol. Will decide later today if I should try to win favor with my boss and go home and enjoy my time off.
Currently serving 2 months notice period, reason being received an offer with better pay. I'm somewhat slacking off in terms of doing my work on my own time and don't care much for deadlines. This is my first job of almost 6 months, so I did made some errors when processing invoices. Clients made complaints for both not meeting the deadlines and failing to perfectly do my work. I just don't have the energy to care now and just clocked out at 5 like usual with the tasks overdue. The supervisor keeps on getting stricter with me lately (which I did expect to get). I'm aware that my team are starting to have negative views on me. They expect me to juggle every tasks and do it perfectly because they can. Most of them have worked there for years. I'm currently pursuing my studies part-time and would usually use that…
I work a regular 9-5 as an engineer, I quite enjoy it but it means that I have to be in call sometimes. I fucking hate being on call No part of me wants get in from a days work and be called out to work more, or no part of me wants to give up my weekend to go work more I get that it’s more money which for some people might make it worth it, however it’s not about the money for me. I’d much rather spend my time outside of work doing what I want not having to worry about work. I work to live, not live to work.
