I work a regular 9-5 as an engineer, I quite enjoy it but it means that I have to be in call sometimes. I fucking hate being on call No part of me wants get in from a days work and be called out to work more, or no part of me wants to give up my weekend to go work more I get that it’s more money which for some people might make it worth it, however it’s not about the money for me. I’d much rather spend my time outside of work doing what I want not having to worry about work. I work to live, not live to work.
The company I work at sent out an employee satisfaction survey – the results were pretty negative. So they voluntold some people in my department, including me, to gather feedback from our colleagues and then share it with leadership. Well, we shared the feedback about why people were unhappy and what could be done. It's the usual stuff – better pay, better work-life balance (less insane deadlines, more working from home,…), more focus on well being (like getting comfortable chairs, renovating our 70 year old offices, getting a break room, standing desks for those asking, not cramming 4+ people into small offices, etc.). Now keep in mind our site alone generates over $1 billion/year in profits. The projects my department works on make or break future hundreds of millions in profit. Do you want to guess what the feedback of leadership is? They don't have a budget for actions, so…
For context I work at amazon and they have us pushing these carts in a very busy parking lot .. I recently read the job description and it doesn’t say that at all..
Honestly don't know how long I can last like this, he knows it's cold and doesn't seem to care. The laws here in the UK are so vague about this
Commute time is around 10 hours, so this goes up to 50 hours. Chores take 10 hours, so 60 hours. Also, each hour at work seems to be five hours' worth of work.
So, my mum works in an emergency department. They are heavily understaffed when it comes to ward clerks. Because of the intense work environment, new employees don’t last and current employees are overworked. My mum has been wanting to resign because she can’t stand the phone calls at odd hours, hoping she can come into work. Well, that wouldn’t stop them calling resigned employees. she is still friends with them and they have have talked about the manager trying to call them even though they don’t work there. Now it doesn’t really matter if my mum resigned or not because she would still get the phone calls. Ex employees are now blocking the numbers because the are sick and tired of the shit.
