My partner started working two jobs in her field and has a 3 hour round trip from where we live now. We settled on an apartment up near her jobs, and I quit my previous job with the goal of finding a new one closer to our new place. I interviewed at a greenhouse and received a job offer a few days later. I asked for some flexibility with my start date since we’re in the process of moving, which the supervisor said would be totally fine and seemed understanding. I remember thinking to myself “wow, a job that’s actually going to treat me like a human being!” Ohhh how wrong I was. Today, the lady texted me saying that unfortunately they were choosing a different candidate, one whom I’d assume can start working sooner than me. I'm a 25 y/o anti-capitalist and I see no better way to spend my life than bringing change for the proletariat in the most practical and effective way possible. This is the advice and suggestions which I'm looking for and I've been thinking about this (and what to study at uni) for quite some time. Previously, I thought about pointing myself towards a degree in politics, economics and philosophy but lately I'm gravitating more towards Mechatronics (mixture of software, electrical and mechanical engineering). Have you heard of the concept of “Fully Automated Luxury Communism”? (A concept and book by author Aaron Bastani) I realise that the oligarchs and capitalists will never change and will never give a shit about the suffering masses. Thus I figured that we, the working class may as well help ourselves with the use of automation and technology to liberate ourselves from our dependency of them.…
