List of “fees” the better paying company charges if hired: Extra pay stub fee if you lose one – $10 $20 for new W-2 if one gets sent to an old address $25 for background check and must be cash $50 charged each time if a family or friend calls the company number that’s listed publicly online $40 fee if you don’t return the two shirts they gave you $250 “training fees” if you quit without written notice and/or are unable to fulfill a two-weeks notice. Must pay to get check. I will NOT be naming this company. But wow.
messed up thing my former boss told me
I had a boss tell me she was against 15$ minimum wage because it would make her degree worthless
Funny interaction with an HR rep today.
Today I got a call back from an application I posted to a potential employer nearly 8 months ago. I applied for an entry level position at this company when moving to a new city just to try and get my resume viewed. After all this time, they decided to call and offer me a interview. In the time between the application and now I’ve got a pretty cushy job at a startup in my related field. The HR rep opened and was super bubbly, “Hey, I came across your resume and would love to have you come in and interview.” I asked what role this was for, and she explained it was entry level while looking at my resume. Given my resume is what would be considered top management in this field. I could just sense the glee that they were going to get someone super qualified for an…
I’m currently working a customer service role from home for Apple post-sales orders, and after this being my third or fourth customer service/support related job I know I never want to work in customer support again. When I was in college, I thought IT support would be an ideal position for me, but I’ve quickly found out how thankless and burdensome it is to provide support to customers or clients. I’m looking for WFH jobs of any kind that are not call center work or technical support specialists, what other jobs are there to WFH that aren’t customer support phone answering jobs? I’m not built for handling angry customers or clients who just argue with you all day.
Coming to Vent…
just a vent about everything. I used to be corporate and made a decent amount of money in the mortgage industry. The market tanked and so did my paycheck. I lost my health insurance, my apartment, and currently I’m flat broke. As you all know, everything hiring right now is so low pay it’s unliveable. Applied to 200+ positions, had about 3 interviews and currently working as a server in the meantime. When I started my serving job (2 weeks ago) I let them know I cannot work 2 days in the upcoming weeks. Of course the guy who interviewed me is out of town and they scheduled me. Following my start date I hit something in the middle of the road with my car and had to call off because it was a Sunday and nothing was open to get my car fixed. My car was smoking and not…
Sometimes it’s best to just leave.
I was working as the overnight concierge for a retirement home for a little over 6 months, making $13/hr. That's not bad pay where I'm at but I had a contract stating I was supposed to be getting 20 cents after 3 months and another 35 cents after 6, then a $1 raise after 18. I never got the initial 20 cent raise and had a gut feeling that it would be an issue, so I just left it alone until it came time for the 2nd raise. Well the 2nd raise didn't happen when it was supposed to, so I went ahead and brought both it and my first raise to my managers attention. She told me “no one got the first raise and no one will” and that the 2nd one should be put on my file soon. I asked if there was a reason that “no one”…
Just venting. I hate working
I have a new job I’ve been at for 3ish weeks. At first I liked it, but now the appeal has worn off. I’d really like to travel whenever and wherever I want. Wish there was a job I could do on the road!
I've realized there's no amount of money that can justify wasting 40 hours a week in an office. I hate every second I need to give to my company and actively try to waste as much time as possible everyday without getting fired.
