I do understand the criticism of CEO's as being nothing more than 'delegators', where they just order people to do the actual work, eg; engineers, marketers, accountants. But wouldn't this same logic apply to movie directors as well, as their names suggest, they're literally DIRECTers, and also delegate, to eg; editors, writers, actors. I just feel it would be odd to undermine people like Scorsesse and Spielberg. (At least I wouldn't apply this to directors such as Tarrantino who actually write their movies as well [I believe the writers to be the real stars anyway])
Assignment before pay?
Hi! Throwaway long time lurker but anyways. The other day I was sending out mass applications to go work somewhere else as my current work is wack. In the midst of getting a response, the interview informed me via email that I would have to complete an assessment prior to an interview. I figured cool, I’ll do it and then see how the interview goes. When I review the assessment, it’s a huge blueprint style questionnaire of scenarios of data management and operations. Planning, execution, training, steps to overcome obstacles etc., I wrote back to the interviewer that I was no longer interested since I would not get paid for actual work and this was only during the interview process. Imagine the work I would be asked to do while getting paid for it?!? Did I do the right thing?
Can I just.. quit?
I’ve been working for the same company for just over 15 years. Corporate/executive salary position with decent pay, but it’s draining. I have been completely miserable. And also learned that (without giving away identifying details) they’re not the company & people I thought they were and have no emotional connection there anymore. Some recent changes have made it so I could get by without this job. And any future reentry into the work force would be in a drastically different capacity / field. I have to be in the office in an hour and I’m panicking. Not because of anything in particular, I just don’t want to be f*cking be there – with every fiber of my being. Assuming I have no contract and am in an at will US state, what are the real repercussions if I just say, I’m not coming anymore? No notice, just I’m done. Can…
Boss has me do chores around his house
Ok so I install farm fencing. I have worked there since 2006. I use to run the company, two workers and myself an boss was on job sight, until my boss got cancer an passed away. His brother took over the company an now it's just me an him an I'm now just a laborer again even though I know more about fencing than he does. He has been running the company for 6yrs now. A year after he took over he tried to hire another helper an hired somebody who knew nothing an started them off making what I was making. This went through me an I let him know but he didn't care. I get paid cash daily as self employed. I just recently got a raise of $25 a day. I use to get bonuses if we got the job done quicker than expected but that quit.…
I'm doing the same thing that other guy is doing. Basically I was treated poorly by restaurants because I was desperate for money and didn't have space to advocate for myself. Now I have security. And so now I get jobs (and a little money) and then ghost them or ask for more out of them at the last second that they're desperate.( In certain situations I've gotten cash.) Big chain restaurants. Why shouldn't I encourage my friends to do it too. (1. I'm a religious person and believe in justice. 2. I'm not a professor of Karl Marx or whatever btw. I'm not super genius academic so dumb it down please. )
Mine does, but I just don’t do it. No one has said anything either so I guess it’s not that big a deal. I don’t understand this. I’m don’t need to have my camera on in a meeting, it’s stupid. Is it a boomer thing? Also zoom links should be mandatory for all meetings. I don’t need to be cozied up next to my co-workers at the height of flu season.
