sudden change in WLB – for the worse
Everything was nice, the WLB was good. Then the company got acquired by another larger fish and the WLB changed badly. I am currently working on a project where the manager expects us to work all day long. He himself works till 2-3AM. And I don't want to know why and how, but this will always be a mystery He keeps saying this is critical and has a tight deadline. I wish I could just say fuck this criticality and tight deadlines. I can't be working 12-14 hours everyday and exhaust myself. I literally see blurr and severe headaches after the 10-11th hour. This has been going on for 3 weeks continuously now and every time he keeps saying how we need to pace up and match his level of speed and commitment and he literally asks us to be “robots” and keep working. I did hear of past employees…
Company refused to use FMLA
So I got fired today. I had 8 absences when I was in the ER and had several dr appts. I got FMLA from my dr and my work approved it. This was October 19th I got my document saying it was approved. Well the accepted it but never applied to the days I was out. After my mgmt claims to have advocated for me against HR I was terminated today. Two weeks before Christmas. I’ve never been written up I’ve been there over 2 years. I’m shocked.
Courage to Stand Up
I came here hoping you guys can give me hope and courage for what I'm about to do (advice is also welcome) I was fired yesterday. Last day of 8 month probation period. They said it was personality conflict and me not improving as much as they liked. On the papers they gave me, it's “rude, lazy, dismissive, sarcastic” along with a bunch of minor things that were exaggerated to extremes. I know I'm not perfect but they could not claim I was this horrible when I had just been praised the past couple weeks. When my history of customer service was stellar w/ promotions and suddenly at this one job I'm a failure? And I get the feeling they were planning this awhile, as if they made up their minds to get rid of me months ago. I may have frozen up during the final meeting but the paperwork…
Received a Formal Warning At Work Today
So I [32/FM] recently started a new job that is full time and work from home based. I enjoy the job but find I work a lot of hours (I work every single weekend, both days) to make sure I never miss deadlines and maintain a certain standard of quality. I always do my best to deliver good work and take my work seriously. Anyway, I don't want to give too much information but one of my tasks was a technical SEO-y kind of task that involved updating the site. I received instruction (that was minimal at best) and proceeded. The task described sounded straight forward enough even with the little information about what to do so I felt confident to start. This is where it goes to crap. I basically crashed the site and it was down for the day. A couple of other people had to spend 3…
I truly believe that if every big ceo was generous and loved to see people happy, the world would be a much better place. If I was a billionaire, I would help the homeless, build community buildings and start programs where people could work for me to help make the world better. Also when money isn’t circulating, it’s a disadvantage for the overall whole economy, especially large sums of money. Sitting on large piles of money stagnates the economy, may as well give it to people who can spend it. If I gave my workers tons of money and saw the happiness on their faces, that would be enough for me when I would already have everything I need to live a good life (if I was a billionaire or even millionaire). I truely believe all money is for everyone. Humans are capable of such amazing cooperation and sharing. I…
They put me on a plane to tell me ‘no’
I am currently studying for a bachelor's degree, and I applied in March for a flight academy sponsored by a major airline. They were offering to pay for part of flight school (very expensive), so it sounded like an interesting opportunity. The materials about the program emphasized that no flight experience was needed and that the minimum age to apply is 18. They flew me to their headquarters a few days ago to sit for an hour long presentation and a thirty minute interview. The interview was behavioral, meaning the questions asked rely on a candidate possessing experience in a professional work environment. I crashed and burned (figuratively), as this is not only the first time I've been asked behavioral interview questions, but the first time I've been professionally interviewed. I worked on a farm for two seasons, and that's the only work experience listed on my resume. If they…
Capitalist Work Culture Sucks
So im contracted tech support for a moderately sized company, and had a manager contact me this morning, practically frothing at the mouth. His employee was DOWN, and we were losing money and sales with him idle. Fix it NOW. Yeah I get it, as the low man on the IT totem pole I'm used to being looked at as “the help”. People only call IT when there's a problem so they're usually unhappy. I just let it roll off lf my back, part of the job. I call and find out the guy is IN HOSPITAL. I didn't ask why, not my place. Maybe it's not serious and he just wants to work. (LOL at that already) but I'm assuming he was either coerced or brainwashed into believing his job is so important. We'Re LoSiNg SaLeS. It really rubbed me the wrong way. Best believe if I'm in hospital…
