I've (22f) been working at a grocery store for past 2 months. After putting back shopping carts that were outside, I was called into the office by my manager. At first, it just seemed like he was going to ask about my 3 call outs; which is what I expected. They weren't consecutive but it was 3 in a quarter, so it was enough to scold me for it. But then he started to say that I wasn't as “cheerful” and “upbeat” as I seemed in my interview with him. I mean, I'm not walking like a zombie in everyday and I have a naturally calm demeanor, which he also knew cuz I told him that from the beginning. My boyfriend works for a popular pizza chain, and now gets all his tips via paycheck instead of cashing him out at the end of the night. He recently received a paper check from them stating it was the tips he was missing on his original check. Today his bank account said the money was returned to the employer and it left his account negative. Is there anything that can be done about this? He contacted his GM and is waiting on a response. Everyone else that received a check for their missing tips is experiencing the same issue.

I have no time management skills, and when I'm depressed or otherwise overwhelmed by my personal life, I pour myself into work as a distraction. I walked off a plane from a funeral and drove straight to work on 47 minutes of sleep. Bosses seem impressed and we're having meetings about promotions. Like, yay me, but I can see why managers are awful. The fact that I'm doing this should be met with concern, concern for my well being, sure, but also concern for my quality of work, or for how this behavior would affect the team. These are qualities about myself that I'm trying to work on, but it seems that self destructive behavior is rewarded under capitalism. I dunno, maybe I'm just tired.

So, I’ve been really surprised by my work. I have dove hard mentally and honestly needed time off from burnout. Not only did they suggest short term disability, but they said they’ll keep my benefits rolling as well because I’ve been with them for ten years. I’ve gotta tons of support emails and texts. In a time I felt trepidation to share with my boss I’m not doing well, they were beyond amazing and reached out to the regional manager to ensure I got everything possible required to assist me. They told me not to worry about work and to get better and they’re there if I ever wish to talk. Actually blown away right now. I’m even more blown away at the disability coverage. It isn’t what I make when I’m working, but it’s 1800 a week. Why can’t every company be like this? I know when I’m healthy…

Even if theyve done something that creates a schizm in the entire work atmosphere he will message them after a few weeks saying that they can still work it out. He basically starves them out until they go, and hes kinda petty so sometimes he will just schedule you less because he doesnt like the work youre doing. If u call out sick, have covid, etc. He will try to make you work anyway and will punish you if you dont. Luckily i havent had covid yet and im very resourceful so i would be O.K. if it ever happened but seriously its so unprofessional. Lately hes been getting kind of aggressive with us too, yelling in our faces n stuff. Its really really uncool.
