Hello, im new to reddit and i would like some advice 🙂 i work in an okayish retail job, the work is not that hard, pay is a bit under average as its a part of a larger chain. Thing is, this particular chain has no unions and i would really like to start one to improve working negotiations. But… i have no idea what to do. I'm waiting on all the tests and stuff right now, but the symptoms and scans aren't looking to nice right now. But thanks to the fact my company offers basically no sick pay for fairly new (one year in) employees, and the gov't offers next to no help unless you're actively dying, I may have to work through this if things go south and I get bad news. There should be some law, idk, stating that employers MUST give paid sick leave for things like cancer or serious illness up to 6 months. I do the job of 2-3 people depending on the day, I start early, skip lunch and work over just to scrape even at the end of the day (and sometimes not even that). So much work. This is an unusual request. I need a female to join 5/10 mins zoom call and act as a previous supervisor at my job. This is for a new role I want to get but unfortunately, I can't let my current supervisor know that I am leaving because of the bad work environment. It's for a customer success job. The recruiter already had a phone call with my “supervisor” (my friend) and she gave all the details concerning my time at my current company. The recruiter said that all they need to do now is confirm via video call for 5-10 mins. I would have asked my friend who did the call but she is early 20s and looks too young. A while back I posted about creating free alternatives to paid for software. A week ago I finally just deployed my first application/website I mentioned in the post. It's not completely done and I'm still adding new things. But it's a resume building application that so far just builds a very simple resume. I'm always looking for criticism as I'm trying to pursue web development professionally. Feel free to check it out, link is at the bottom of the post. Things I'm planning for the future: I plan to remove the street address input because I feel it's irrelevant on a resume. Update the styles and make it feel more modern. My girlfriend works part time, previously full time, for a local daycare that is very mismanaged, very toxic, and very corrupt. I took her to get breakfast and deposit her paycheck this morning, and I noticed on her paystub that her paycheck was deducted for “Training” and “Holiday”. I asked her about it, and her explanation was that 9 or so months ago, she had to read some manual/handbook for work. I asked her why she is having to pay for that, and why is she having to pay for it months later, and she said they are probably having her pay for the materials and it is a recurring charge.
