I work atta smoke shop. my store manager constantly asks me and everyone else to find someone to cover out shifts if we can't make it in for whatever reason. Just curious, should sales associates have to do that..? Do any of y'all go through similar situations?
They’re basically going to hire a lot of people and make them compete against each other and only keep the ones who can do ALL the tasks well and fast. Apparently some of my coworkers were opposed to that and they were told that its ”the best way to do it”. Im shocked because i do work a lot , it hurts.. feels like betrayal. I thought i was doing well and hearing that makes me reconsider if its worth it to even stay. Im not going to fight people for 16$ an hour but at the same time this is one of the best jobs ive had so far.
Am I just in La La Land about work?
Apologies if this is not appropriate for this sub, but it seems like a good place to post a work-related question / advice. I want to get a reality check to see if I'm just super naive / in La La Land or if my husband's work schedule is indeed too much. We're 33 years old, American. I have had a government job for the last 6 years and even before that, I've always worked for the public sector so my jobs have barely ever gone above 40 hours a week. They've all been pretty standard 9-5, both hourly and salaried, but if I go over, I get comp time by eventually taking time accrued off later. My husband has had private sector jobs for as long as I've known him. The last job, he worked so much overtime and weekends he burnt out and quit, resulting in a 9…
Can't we just make a group of small worker co-ops, slowly build and coordinate them together, commit to only supporting/buying from them to topple the capitalist giants, then once we've taken over the market find effective solutions toward the goal of reducing everyone's average work while still fairly supporting them. It would take a lot of coordination, but I feel like young people are the ones that are more likely to be able/willing to make something like that work. We haven't done this though, so what am I missing that's standing in the way?
This is my first job that has ever conducted yearly performance reviews, and it appears that they take points off for using accrued sick time (which is only a week max). They also ask employees to request sick time off in advance, and when you call out sick it seems it affects the review as well. How can anyone plan to be sick? Why should anyone be penalized for getting sick. We’re not robots. Humans get sick. To raise my score in that area, I was told to take no more than 1 sick day next year… Like the whole entire year. Is this commonplace for you guys?
Since I’ve seen a lot of posts about really bad Christmas gifts from employers…I’d like to know what you’d think about this gift. My husband is a front line manager with the federal govt. He normally gives his employees $10 Starbucks gift cards out of his own pocket. Doesn’t have to, most other managers don’t bother with anything. But he has a far different management style than most and his employees actually like him. However we’ve recently moved to an area that Starbucks isn’t on every corner. I just…no. It just didn’t feel like a good gift for here. So this year I crocheted Santa hats for everybody. Filled a Christmas tin with candy, smiley face stress ball and small phone chargers that I found that were $10. If you were his employee would you prefer a $10 gift card over my little hokey gift?
WTF is a quiet promotion?
Possibly sexist work environment
I work in a metal shop and in the deburring department, and we all (3 of us) got told that we all need to do one particular job because it’s hot(needed asap). So we have to basically use hand tools to make the edges not sharp, after that step we have to grain 4 edges. Now to grain, we have an air tool that is basically a big sanding wheel (not heavy) that we move along edges to make the metal look smoother and nicer. Is it sexist that my supervisor told the one other guy I work with that, one person should grain and not that person (unnamed female) because “she’s not good at it” , now she’s been here for a year and 3 months I’d say, and I’ve seen her grain maybe 3 times. There’s a lot of unfair I deal with at work, but this is…
My Title Is No Longer Needed Apparently, I’ve Been Giving A Date For Termination For Next Month; I E-mailed Back To Get Things Clear That I Will Be Terminated On That Date. They Said No I’m Not Being Terminated I’m Choosing To Longer Work For The Organization. They Have Offered Me A Job Paying 50% Less Than What I Am Being Paid Now. Is There Anything I Can Do?
