Lol think it twice. I've read here few posts about your salary and see sadness if you get less than like 100/day. I mean that's ok, you know how much your time costs and I respect it. You definitely deserve more and I proud of you! Fight for your rights! I just want to share my pain. I am forking for American company and I get ~7k/year. It's difficult “intelligent” work, not manual labor. Coz I am fckn Ukrainian and companies think they could save their money on me. Such guys who saing about “stealing” could say “yes but if we will force them to hire local Americans they will have no choice but pay more”. But no, they are wrong coz YOU will have no choice in such case. They can easily move to Ukraine or India or whatever. They will find ways to save money. In the same…

Nepotism and unlawful discrimination
My boss (the owner) hired his son and his sons girlfriend at the company i work for a few months back. The timing could not have been worse as this time of the year we aren't bringing in a ton of money – he even cancelled our bonuses for a month to catch up on expenses. My issue is that I make a measly $19 an hour while his son and his girlfriend are both on salary – each receive $5,000 a month regardless of the amount of time they work. For instance – I'm here full time 40 hours a week. Son and girlfriend are each hitting maybe 10 hours a week on the clock. I previously was working the position of the girlfriend and was never offered a $5000 monthly salary. Currently I am supervisor to the son – he is holding the most entry level position in…
A Tale of Holiday Nonsense
Years ago, I used to work at this giant warehouse. It was my first real job and while it wasn’t the greatest company, the work was easy and the PTO generous. Each year, this company would put on a holiday party for the employees. It was onsite and the party started at noon. The company would have a catered lunch and basically just a dry party. Everyone could leave at 14:00 and still get paid until 15:30. Nothing spectacular, but not the worst way to spend a workday. Fast forward to June during which there was always a company wide meeting. When the VP opened up the floor to questions, one lady raised her hand. She asked why folks couldn’t leave at noon on the day of the holiday party. Keep in mind, she was asking this question in JUNE! The VP explained she could use PTO to which the…
I tested positive for covid on Wednesday of last week and so I called off the rest of the week. It’s 8:45 am and she calls me and says, “Are we going to see you this morning?” I said no because I was still feeling sick. Her response? “Well, it’s been 5 days. I’m concerned about all the work you have sitting on your desk isn’t getting done.” I told her I still wasn’t feeling well but that I will be there tomorrow. I could tell she was annoyed. The thing is she knows my last day there is December 29th and this is what she’s worried about? She should be worried about hiring my replacement!
Age difference treatment
On mobile- excuse any formatting issues. I work in a fairly large and semi important office, I am the youngest in the office (21f). I have been the youngest in almost all of my positions since I went into the somewhat corporate world (18 as an office admin). I am not in corporate anymore, but it is semi necessary to state for the conversation being had. In office attendance has killed what little respect I had beforehand. Those interviewing me knew my age and my skill set due to my diploma date and work history (which is fairly meek, see age) being listed on my applications. As soon as anyone looks at me from coming into the office for the first time after wfh, it is pretty obvious that I'm younger than the average age of someone I work with. My average coworker is the same age as my parents…
I've been working low paying healthcare industry jobs for 10+ years and I finally landed on a company so shitty that they laid off a quarter of their workforce right before the holidays to boost corporate profit. I couldn't be more elated to take a break and collect unemployment. My plan is to break my lease and hike the appalachian trail this spring/ summer while I figure out my next career move. Any tips to maximize unemployment so that I can continue to receive benefits while hiking on the east coast? I'm planning to apply for food stamps and medi-cal as well (I live in San Diego).
No change will come without organization. (They will turn our brothers against us) No organization will come without motivation. (They will use despair to inspire hopelessness) No motivation will come without fear. (They will back us into a corner if we let them) No fear will come without incident. (They will fight to silence us) Give me someone to stand beside
I'm sick of seeing people on here talking especially about door greeters and self checkout hosts. They're trying to feed their families, man. If you yell at the cashier cause the manager won't let them change a price, if you yell at the door greeters because they ask to see your receipt instead of just saying no and leaving, if you yell at the self checkout men and women because their bosses won't pay to open more registers. Not everyone is nice, but if you yell at these people unprovoked you're excluding these thousands of workers from your idea of class solidarity and you should be ashamed.
The actual wording says no outside interests are allowed to be pursued. It was also verbally mentioned to me on induction and I was told that this is because I should 100% focus spare time on the job and if I had any pursuits, this is time I should spend growing the business. Seems sus to me. And unenforceable by law. I mean, as a parent or someone with hobbies. Technically reading the news could be considered an outside interest. Or listening to music, going to gigs. As it stands, I play in bands. 8n my spare time, not on company time, I may add. So how do you draw the distinction in law?
