POP Radio personalities just spend about 10 minutes here in Florida talking about “HOW GREAT WORKING FROM THE OFFICE IS” and why it is so much better to be in the office.

They cite better internet speeds, and cooler AC is so much better than working from home. NOT! Wonder who paid for that. Get to see everyone.

Company fired my GM

I'm a manager at a smaller business, they have like 5 stores. Anyways, they have been forcing us to cut employees hours left and right, and making us fill in the gaps because we are salary, so of course. This has lead to some employees quitting at locations, because they don't have enough money to live anymore. Cut to the other day, one of those effected employees had to open a store, and they didn't have enough gas. My GM used their company gas card to get them enough to get to and from work til payday, just like two days, to keep the store running, and making us money. Company fired her for “theft.” I'm livid. This woman was a great manager, and when I moved into her position, she was an even better GM, constantly pushing back on their bad decisions that would hurt our store and employees.…

Daycare Negligence

My wife works for a daycare in NE PA. Last week, one of her co-workers tested positive for COVID. But the owner said that worker had to come in to work anyway. My wife stood her ground and told both the owner and worker that by law, they had to leave work. The worker finally did leave, but not without a fight. Yesterday, the state inspector showed up for a random inspection. The owner was shaking in their boots. My wife told the inspector all about that incident, as well as the fact that their ratio from kids to employees is generally higher than it’s supposed to be, and that her W-4 was filled out for her when she started working. Everything about this place is shady. I’m mostly mad because my kids went to that daycare, and I would not have known that they were exposed to COVID if…

Nothing like a natural disaster for a company to show their true colors!

As many of you know, Florida was hit by Hurricane Ian 6 days ago. I work for a large company in the area who has not offered any services to it's employees other than you can come sit in the air conditioned lobby and use the wifi. They wouldn't even let me park my car in the empty garage so it didn't get flooded at my apartment. Today, my corporate office sent an email saying how devastating the storm was but the main headquarters was not damaged. Then another email was sent requesting volunteers (read unpaid) to work at our retail locations. Not in lieu of our regular jobs but in addition to our regular jobs. Schools are closed for the foreseeable future, traffic lights are out, there are long lines for gas, thousands still don't have power or water and they want us to volunteer to make money for…

Called into managers office to be berated for clarifying legality of taking a lunch break.

I am an adult. I am aware of the laws in my state. If I work a continuous 7 1/2 hours, an unpaid minimum 20 minute unpaid lunch break must be provided to me within the first 5 hours of my shift. I started a new job in hospitality with no background in it, and have only had issues with them for every shift so far. My trainer and direct manager are on a power trip and I guess pointing out (to my trainer.. not manager) that we should be taking lunches is seen as a threat of some sort. So instead, my trainer (who is over 40.. has kids my age) ran to our manager and painted a picture of me questioning this as a negative thing like I was challenging the company and her because she went 3 consecutive days without taking one OR offering me one. Coming…

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I absolutely hate this question during interviews. The last interview I heard it, I knew I wasn’t going take the job. So I gave back to the applicant community: “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” “Nope. Not after 2020. Reach into your bag of canned questions and pick out another one. That question is no longer valid in todays world.”
