Posted this too r/askwomenadvice last night and most of those chicks seemed like they were taking up for the bullshit my girlfriends manager did. Im not looking for justification but I feel this is a much proper sub to post this in. My girlfriend got fired from the chiropractor office she worked at today after only a week and a half of training with the company. Her manager (that she met for the first time today) told her that she felt like she wasn't grasping the material and that she felt like she needed extra support with training (?) She said she felt that since she couldn't help her get the training they had to let her go. Although my girlfriend is getting trained by people and they are saying she's doing a great job and she felt good and excited and this is something she wanted to do. Her…
So to start I work as a mechanic at a rental company, I work 10 hour shifts Monday – Friday (7-5) and a 5 hour shift on Saturday (7-12) every single week. I’m not forced to work Saturday but I do because I’m barely scraping by. So that means a typical day for me starts at 6:00 am and i don’t get home until almost 6:00pm. 5 days a week and then half my Saturday is gone, even more so in commute on the weekend. The only day I get off is Sunday unless I put vacation time in. Why is it I get demonized for not wanting to do even more? I want to punch the clock do my job and go home. I don’t want to go to fairs and community days on Sunday to represent the company. I don’t want to be sent away for week long…
I work in a VA nursing home. It is on the higher end and funded by some heavy hitters in the 1%. A few days ago I was told by a work friend that an email was sent out about asking the residents families and guardians for “donations for the employee Christmas bonus.” I inquired more and she seemed to know very little beyond they’ve been doing it for years and whenever they get questions they just say “it’s okay cause we are a non profit.” I started asking around about this bonus and everyone tells me that they barely ever see it, but the admin staff regularly gets bonus and most of them already make 100k+. Our main CEO makes 250k. Does anyone know if I can report them to someone for this? This can’t be legal. Edit: I work in Virginia NOT veterans affairs. Sorry for confusion
TL;DR at the bottom I don't work and haven't for a few years now, which is what I always wanted, but with a cruel twist. I just got back on reddit after finding out this sub existed and thought I'd share a bit of my story since there seem to be so many like-minded people here in terms of not wanting to work their whole lives. THE PLAN My plan when I was younger was to do everything I could to earn and save a lot of money so I could retire no later than age 50. In fact, I actually told several people that if I had to work past 50 I didn't see the point in living and was planning to kill myself rather than go on like that. And I meant it. So in my 20s I not only went to a university and got a degree,…
Does this seem fair?
So my work place is closing down early for a Christmas Party today. We usually close at 5pm but today they are shutting down at 3 and letting people leave early to come to this party at a local restaurant here where we live. Here’s where it gets a little tricky though. The people who are scheduled to work after that time who would be leaving early do not get paid for that time. The higher ups stated that because people could drink at the party, the time could not be paid for. Also this was not the case last week when we were told about this. We were told that the time was paid for. It wasn’t until yesterday afternoon that the script was flipped and they told us they the people who would have their day cut short would not get paid for that time. They were told…
Lost another day to pointless drudgery The slow chipping away of my autonomy A rodent in a race unsung and underpaid My colleagues seem to me like slaves in sheep-array Then a shock goes through the herd at the nauseating purr Of the corpos of the world when the content is secured 'Cause they're naked emperors hear the rattling of the purse I hunger for the hearse 'cause nothing could be worse Than a life lived as a limb in a debt anatomy Rather be dead than a link in a chain of tyranny (…) Suit up, punch in, punch out non-stop Suit up, punch in, punch out, get fucked Pressured to mount the backs of my brothers Clamber for clout year after year The load multiplies up high on the ladder The bottom falls out, then so does the fear I've had enough I've done enough Here comes revenge…
Corporations are willfully ignorant
It's a never ending frustration how unintelligent people are, particularly the ones in power. Corporations reward toxic behavior unless explicitly designed otherwise. At my job (Stone Plant operator, in an underground mine / above ground quarry) we lose a humongous percent of material that could be sold to customers but corporate won't let us shut down and make the repairs because that would stop production. Problem is that we're only running about 70% our original capacity, and while that's significantly better than what we used to average (about 30%) it's still an unacceptable margin of loss in damn near any industry. If a normal human being with brain cells were a restaurant owner and saw 30% of food you purchased got thrown away, they'd probably ask a LOT of questions. If you were a mechanic and 30% of the cars you repaired came back as faulty for your work you'd…
Christmas “bonus” was company swag
Shirt, cup, the normal stuff. We used to get stuff like this for free and now it’s considered a gift.
Management Rant
First post in here and kind of just a rant but – I’m in charge of organizing a SWOT analysis from my company’s management team regarding our company. We are in an incredibly good spot as a company, +35% in sales after a record year last year, brand new facility that is completely paid for. One of the best things about my company is financially responsibility, we have never had job layoffs and management boasts that we are recession proof – which I am definitely grateful for. But these guys had the audacity to have over half of the weaknesses be related to new/inexperienced staff or staff instability/retention. The instability and retention falls 100% on management for not being as flexible as they can be or just their general outlook on management. New staff is actually a great opportunity to teach and make people want to work here. Our new…
