Just part of the game

Many of who have probably heard about the new IRS requirement of any $600 or more transaction on sites like Venmo and PayPal need to be reported when you file your taxes with certain exceptions. This is being reported as an attack on small business by some in the media, but I believe it to be something else. I feel that the government has realized that the non-participation labor rate with the 25 to 40 age bracket is so large that they are convinced that people are using alternative methods for income (i.e. under the table). And they are receiving payment through the electronic transfer process. For example, if you work for a contractor with an agreed upon under the table salary of $800 a week, how do you get paid? He or she can't write a check and you don't want that much cash to carry until you get…

Everyone but me received Christmas bonus.

I just got over COVID about 3 days ago after having it for a week, and there was a Christmas party my work held that they changed from mandatory to optional. I told them I wasn't going to go because I still have symptoms from COVID and don't want to get anyone sick and the upper management kept trying to pressure me into going . I told them I won't go I don't want to get everyone sick or be coughing and blowing my nose next to people eating. So I didn't go and they gave everyone a nice Christmas bonus except for me since I didn't go to the Christmas party.

Please let requiring photos not become a thing on applications.

I just went through an application for a remote support job, as I'm job-hunting right now. There were the usual things – resume, name, phone number, address, and work history. Then it asked for specifics about things I'd worked with. And then it gave me a non-skippable option to upload a photo. I dropped out of that one tout de fucking suite. As a trans person, I really don't feel comfortable giving it as part of applying for a job. But I also don't think anyone should be required to provide a picture as part of the initial application process, or even the interview process, and not until you have to give a copy of your ID for the I-9 form. I really hope this doesn't become a thing. It's not the stupidest thing on a job application I've dealt with – that would probably be having to describe “a…

‘Yearly bonus,’ as an excuse to not pay people market

I’m leaving my job. We get bonuses every year and it is included in our year ‘ total compensation,’ I’m leaving my job the end of the year, asked if I’d get my end of year bonus and was told no because I need to be employed in feb. Is this legal? My base salary is less than market value for my role

Mom just got fired

My mom was graphic designer for a small company in Miami, sometimes she would even go 36 hours without sleep because she had to do on-site jobs, for 36 hours you know the only thing the company would give her to eat? Fucking Macdonald burgers, thats it. My mom basically does graphic design, graphic rendering, she installs those same graphics onto booth, she manages and she operates the machines for the graphics to come out good. She basically did the job of at least 3 OTHER PEOPLE and they still would pay her 18 the hour, make her work 36 hours continously and sometimes they would even DEDUCT HER HOURS so as to not pay her overtime. I know she will get a job again like alway, but It just sucks that because she can't speak English all that well she has been basically exploited at all her jobs. I…

Help with wrongful termination? (It’s a long one)

Not sure if this will be productive or not, but at the least I’ll be able to vent to people who might understand even if they can’t help. So about 3 months ago, I was working for a company in the in-house sales (upgrading accounts) department. It was all new, but I was picking up on it quickly and learning through my mentor who has been in the business for over 20 years. There were ups and downs, but I made it work and the commission was incredible. (~$1,500 for one sale which averaged around 2 hours of work). I worked there in 2021 for about 3 months as well but got laid off for the winter. No big deal as I was brought back once the season started again. About a month into the 2022 season, upper management took an iron grip by firing a handful of people, demoting…
