The state of Minnesota has a $17.6 billion budget surplus. The governor has proposed sending out checks of $1,000 per adult to Minnesotans.
My Issue With This Subreddit
You all are sad and pathetic. From the posts I've seen over the past couple months you all complain about shitty job positions you have put yourself in, low pay from Horrible jobs, and you all complain about anything you can. You complain about not getting $20 an hour and 4 weeks of sick days from a dead end office job . If you weren't so braindead then you would realize that working under shitty management gives shitty rewards. You are all so lazy and complain about anything you want. Like I'm 16 and manage school, swim practice, and school and I never complain cause I know I can remove myself from my job if I want to focus on school or whatnot. . And speaking of work, I NEVER complain about work, I bust my ass working as a host but I love what I do, I'd never put…
Understand that to make any real headway with this movement you will have to accept that our goals are in direct contravention to those of the moneyed interests currently in control of our systems and organizations. They want more profit and have repeatedly shown through history and current events that they will commit systemic violence on every level to obtain that goal. Capitalism drove the Enclosure acts, forcing the people to work for the capitalists to subsidize their own existence. It drove the adoption of wage earning and labor exploitation. Capitalism didn't invent slavery, but it sure as hell took advantage of it to enrich the capitalists, turning it from a cultural and state practice to a systematic, privatized industry which continues to enrich the 'global north' at the expense of it's neighbors and it's own 'undesirables' to this very day. Capitalism didn't invent colonies, but it turned them from…
The lack of experience and insight among leadership with consumer trends means the trust keeps becoming more frayed.
NYC Landlords:
I’m in a college program where I NEED to go on an internship for at least 200 hrs. My prof keeps telling me that I’m getting paid with experience and I need to stretch out my $1000 loan to last that long. IN THIS ECONOMY??? I found one that I’m going to apply for but it’s only $7/hr when minimum is $13. I quit my $20/hr job for this… Idk how the hell im suppose to pay rent, power, wifi, phone, groceries etc for two months (ish) with only $1000… This was suppose to be my dream job but right now it sounds like a nightmare. Knowing that I’m going to be making such little money makes me hate my degree.
I don’t know what I’ve come down with as I’ve had all my vaccines. I’m coughing blood, pretty sure I fractured a rib, extreme muscle pain, and I have completely lost my voice. Last night I had a fever of 102.4. I work at a small privately owned gas station with 7 employees. I told my manager all of this and was informed I would have to find my own cover (which is fine.) however I reached out to the three coworkers not on the schedule and only one said she may be able to cover but it would be Saturday (that’s fine, she has kids). The other 2 (I’ll call Jess and Mary) told me no. Jess is out of town (which is totally fine). However, Mary simply said no because those are her days off even tho I offered to switch shifts next week so she would have…
https://jacobin.com/2022/12/uaw-leadership-election-unite-all-workers-for-democracy-victories/ This is from a couple of days ago, but I haven't seen it mentioned here. There's a persistent undercurrent of unhappiness with the current unions in this sub. Someone will mention unions and someone in the comments will complain about a bad experience. Some of those complaints are true. I've been a member of a bad union, and I still believe that a bad contract is better than no contract and a bad union is better than no union, but I'd really like to see better unions. I've mentioned in comments several times how the anti-labor Taft-Hartley act set up unions to be difficult to replace which gives union leadership an incentive to put their own interests ahead of the workers they represent. Here's a story about a large union which is finally getting a reform slate into power. I'm glad to see reformers pulling a win even though…
Lost my job and housing all at once
I am a nanny who’s been working and living in the back house (converted garage) for a year and a half. Today I lost all of it because the mother of the household ended her contract when they tried to force her to work full time (she already works crazy/weird hours) and my employers decided to have her stay home with the kids. To say that I’m hurt is an understatement, but I now have to scramble to find a job and housing by January. I didn’t expect them to put me in this position- being reassured that “I’m family” and all. I couldn’t eat waiting on their decision after hearing her contract ended and now that I have their decision all I can do is cry. Being single makes capitalism so difficult. All of the burden is on me. I already get status anxiety about my job title but…
