So I work in retail in Australia. I’ll just say we sell a lot of pricey watches, but I only make the minimum retail award… There’s some dodgy stuff that happens with my pay, for example my manager throws a hissy fit whenever it takes longer to close than my allotted finish time. (Eg when the store closes at 5pm for patrons, my shift ends then too, but even if we have customers browsing with just a few minutes before 5 we’re somehow expected to clean the store, count the till, bank the cash, clean the cabinets and finish all the other odd jobs). My manager keeps saying that she has a budget to meet, and has a quid pro quo that if we finish late she won’t mind if we arrive to the shift a few minutes late. (That said often I leave the store 20 minutes after my…
This thought just kinda hit me like a lightbulb moment. The recipe or formula for success was generally get an education, get a steady good paying job, but a house and work until retirement happily ever after. Is that formula literally disappearing to the point where we have to adapt to a new world and redefine how to be successful? If so….what is the new formula for success? Seems like social media influencer and marketing yourself like a damn brand is the next way to come up quick and fast… Thoughts?
Can someone please explain this to me?!?
I was supposed to work 6-2 today, but woke up at 3:30 violently projectile vomiting. Once I was finally able to stop heaving, brushed my teeth and was able to sort myself out again I hopped onto my jobs scheduling app and threw my shift up for grabs with the caption ‘projectile vomiting someone please pick this up’ on top of contacting my MOD and trying to go through WorkDay (but WorkDay was down for maintenance). My AMOD texts me basically reaming me out saying that I needed to give a 4 hour notice next time. Like I’m f****** sorry that I puked for 30 min, cleaned myself up for 5-10 and then spent the next 20 min trying to get onto WorkDay and then ultimately texting the MOD and updating my legion schedule. Putting me at a whopping hour and 35 min until my shift officially started. WHY TF…
So I've read 48 Laws Of Power so I can better avoid being manipulated and otherwise screwed over by people in general. For those who've read it, what do you folks think would be the best laws to use to deal with shitty bosses, jobs, and finding better jobs? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Always Say Less Than Necessary and Conceal Your Intentions would be useful.
why are customers so fucking weird
Okay i just need to rant for a second I had a very strange experience the other day. I work in a hardware store so we get a lot of contractors in all the time, some of them with…. interesting opinions. Now, this is nothing im not used to, as i used to work an installation job at construction sites a few years back, and ive never had an issue getting along with most contractors. However, This dude comes through my till while im covering for one of the people who called in (im a supervisor). Dude walks up, and just goes without any hesitation “hello, redhead brother! Are you procreating??” At this point in my head im going what the fuck who opens a conversation like that??? But in reality i just customer service laughed and went “nah, not yet”. i actually dont want kids but i didnt want…
