Why do employers expect so much from a part time worker who they’re paying the minimum wage…?

I genuinely don’t understand the delusion of some of these employers… As a full-time student thinking of applying for a new part-time job (currently working at a restaurant where we’re always short-staffed and I’m constantly working past my scheduled hours) having to sift through all of these ridiculous job listing that demand you have an “obsession for detail” and “only strive for absolute perfection” and have “full week availability” (for a part-time job, make it make sense please ) and “prioritise your role at x establishment” is so fucking annoying, like how are you expecting all of this for a MINIMUM WAGE part-time job, with absolutely no benefits except free coffee? Jesus Christ.

I just paid $80 at a Chili’s for dinner with my partner. That makes me sad.

I’ll preface this with, we’d not been out to dinner since my birthday (beginning of July, it is now Dec. 3 as of this post. We went to Chili’s bc it’s that quintessential easy American restaurant where nothing is complicated or fancy, just a big soda and some deep fried pickles, ya know, easy? We both got sodas (those were free if you sign up for their email flyers. Annoying, I know.) (and we don’t drink). Got their trio app thing (comes with three little versions of their different appetizers), then I got southwest chicken salad, and he got their Classic Ribeye (~8oz). And the total for the bill, with tip was $80. ……….$80 American, US, dollars. For some fried pickles, lettuce with a sad piece of chicken on it, and a slice of beef that you’d expect to get at a Chili’s…for $80. All I wanted to do here…

My bf’s boss texted him at 10pm to come in at 4am for a job tomorrow.

Basically what the title says. He works “on-call” but doesn’t get paid as an on-call employee. He works in the oil field. His boss texted him tonight at 10pm letting him know about a job he needs to be at tomorrow at 4am. Is this legal?? I CANNOT find the laws regarding this. We are in Ohio. His employer is the worst. Beyond messed up.

I start working a new job tonight after months of not working.

Sadly the time has come for me to get some income. I tried to make it work for so long. I fixed my car the cheap way. Cutting corners just to keep it running a little longer. I fixed other people's cars for some quick cash. I sold stuff. I start working as a forklift driver tonight. For 21 an hour. But its graveyard shift sadly. Weekly pay. The staff seems pretty laid back so i can't imagine it would be too bad. Just need enough for a lower mile car and enough to start coming up with some more ideas so I can get back to Anti work!

Is an “investigation” considered retaliation?

I made a complaint to management about a coworker making racist and antisemitic comments at work frequently. Management did not take the complaints seriously and they acted unprofessionally. Now all of a sudden I get an email saying that management is “investigating” me because supposed coworkers have been complaining about me. I’ve always been a good employee. Would this “investigation” be considered retaliation against me?

I can’t bring myself to pay anyone working in my home $15 an hour…

Teresa was my father's hospice aide ($15hr agency). She's amazing. Dad passed in October. When it came time to clear his place, I instantly thought of Teresa and offered her $30 an hour. She was shocked at the offer. I told her: Never ever devalue yourself. Know your worth. I'd already seen her in action. For me, that was her resume. In, out; done like a lighting bolt. She's super efficient with her time. I've hired her three other times. Moving. Cleaning. Organizing. She's since signed two other clients at $30. One of them called me for a reference, prompting this post. I told them they could hire two people at $15, or Teresa at $30, and she'd be done before them. The caller said “I'd much rather worry about one new person cleaning & organizing my home than two”. There you go, another selling point. About three weeks ago…
