Hey all, background info. I work for a non profit. Started as a coordinator running a program for youth then transitioned into a role where I work more on operations/technical support for my organization. However, I still have to do the Coordinator work because it is still needed to run the program I mentioned. My title is a Systems Manager. I am full time. I was primarily working in “department A”, but this September I was given a raise with the intention to do the same work for the entire company. However, because of the way things work for our company, my pay is allocated from different budgets. Essentially, 14% of my pay is taken out of the supervisor's budget/department B. I've been unemployment for couples of months, ask me anything.

I know we’re all aware of why employers don’t want employees to talk about wages, but why are they so secretive about severance packages? Is it for the same reason? My company did a mass layoff a few years ago and it was a huge secret as to what people were getting as severance & I don’t really understand why.

I work in retail at a grocery store in AZ and am in Union. I’ve been working at my department for about a month and had a discussion with one of my coworkers. We discussed pay and found out that she gets paid less than me and she’s been working here far longer than I have. After finding that out, I went to ask another coworker how much they are being paid and they are being paid less than her! On top of that, he didn’t have a union rep present when he was hired, and two other people that were hired with him can attest to that as well. We recently had a guy (or a kid) work here who ended up leaving and before he left, I had asked how much he was getting paid. He was getting paid slightly more than me. Mind you, he has nowhere…

We are at a time where conditions are lining up to unite people. How many times have we heard and read about all the bullshit happening in our country but decide not to do anything, because we don’t know what to do? Nothing can ever be done, nothing we do will make a difference. Well, now with the rail strike underway, we can combine our strength to make a move which can actually change things. A general strike, of all positions, from December 19th through the 25th. That’s what we need to put together. Every American deserves paid sick leave, vacations, maternity leave. Let’s make it happen.

I work as a chef and I was just put on a probation after coming back from a month with mono. I have all the proper documentation and still got hit with this. It's just doubled down that companies don't hire humans they make an investment. As soon as you don't make them 300% labor costs you're expendable. Wouldn't be so bad if our Healthcare wasn't jeopardized as well as our income and shelter. It's a fever dream but I'd like companies to be forced to hire humans and treat them as such. You are not paying for a job to be done, you are paying for a humans time and in that time require them to fulfill a role. I know other industries are all sorts of messed up and would love to hear others stories. Im just hoping we can fix this mess for our kids at least.
