Accepted time off the day after?
I (16 m) work at walmart. I take drum lessons (which they are aware of) and i keep getting scheduled when i should be going to my lesson. When i talk to the manager she says she won’t schedule me… It got to the point i used the app to ask for time off weeks in advance. Last week i checked the schedule and saw i was scheduled to go in at 3 and i had requested the time off and they hadn’t accepted it. I skipped my lesson and went to work. I spend 80 dollars a month whether i go or not so i lost money and then the day after my manager accepted my time off request… I also can’t quit because my parents will murder me. I don’t want to cancel my drum lessons but i am starting to feel like that is the only option.
Has anyone considered the trades?
I have read many posts on this and you all have some very valid points. The angriest seem to come from people in the service indusrty. As the kid of a tradesman, was wondering if anyone of you had considered going into a trade. Examples: plumber, electrician, carpenter, HVAC, Mason, truck driver, mechanic etc. The training costs are much lower than university, you can be union (trade unions are powerful), non union, independent- whatever you want. You'll always have a job. Money is a lot better than the service industry. Wondered what opinions were any why you would or wouldn't consider that route.
Crybaby coworkers
I’m still the FNG at this place and as such I’ve been treading lightly around some of the long time guys. Let me say a few things up front. This is not a PC work environment. It’s all men and we are mostly over 40. At a recent meeting some coworkers were complaining about a schedule change. After looking at my schedule I realized that I was the only one not affected. I pulled management aside and offered to swap schedules with the guy who was crying the loudest. He was actually yelling at everyone in the meeting. Well after a couple days of thinking on it I changed my mind and let management know I was no longer willing to go through with the swap. They asked a few questions and I BS’d a few answers. In reality I realized this crybaby, who is supposed to be the manliest…

I have always worked including after my toddler was born 2 years ago, but because of Covid I wound up doing full time work from home + childcare with no help for 2 years until layoffs got me. During this time I also took care of household duties (split with husband) and then also some weird trad stuff that should theoretically be valuable like cutting my husbands hair, sewing the family clothes, making our bread, etc. also, I have never once said no to sex with my husband so if we’re going to be really pedantic about it, there has to be some monetary value on daily sex. I’ve been out of work for 4 months and I genuinely don’t think I’ll find work again. My husband is understanding partially because in our early marriage he worked a job that literally paid him $0 and I was the only breadwinner.…
Denied PTO request? No problem.
I’m taking a trip in December to see my girlfriend’s parents and as my first experience out of the country. I have the PTO and boss was cool with it so no problem. Got my passport, bough the tickets (which were $1,300) and everything is set. Then we hear the news that our company just got bought out. Old company paid us out for our PTO and new company starts us at 0. HR tells me that there’s no way I can take the time off as I don’t have enough PTO and it’s not medical. They suggested that I cancel my plans and just rebook it for next year after I accrue the needed amount of PTO. I was beyond pissed at this point and just started looking for a new job. I got fortunate enough to find one (and even got a slight pay bump.) My first day…
