It makes no sense.
Like the title says, Mental healths taken a nasty dip and im having trouble finding any joy in life when it seems to boil down to just “work until you die so your kids can have the privilege of working until they die”. Need some advice on how yall manage similar mental health pitfalls.
They tend to have no problem exploiting others and getting rewarded for it. In fact, they don’t care about anyone else’s experience at all. If they pay attention to something, it’s because it feeds into them wanting more power, more control.
The Raise that never came…
I started a baking job back in August. The owner and I discussed right off the bat that I need a better wage and I'm willing to work for it. The boss says to give him a month to see what I know before he pays me. During this month the woman training me, who had 7 work days left before she quit, got a raise. So did the other guy who is about to quit who put his schedule down to weekends. Despite coming in early, coming in when I didn't have to and never saying no, all I've been told about the raise is that I'm not ready for it. Supposedly, because of the way I sweep the floor and because of how I measure ingredients. Boss literally had to grab at straws to justify not paying me. He's booking me for 40 hours this week, how do…
I would like: Wages I can live on and have savings Customers who don’t beat up employees routinely Working conditions that aren’t miserable and alienating A sense that others are improving their knowledge and skills as much as I am Good leadership that knows we have uncertainty and corrupt systems Teams that have a sense of what we are trying to do and why To be allowed to be whoever I want to be
Cell Phones during working hours
So recently everyone in my department of work had to sign & date a paper that requires us to ALWAYS keep our phones locked in a cell locker they provide to us, or in our vehicles during the full 8-12 hour work shift. I’m refusing and stating that my phone will always stay in my pocket. Doesn’t mean that I’m on it. A have sibling family members in pretty bad health, so I like to keep it on me for emergencies. Note that we work third shift so if I’m getting a call at 3AM, it’s typically critical. So, I’ll continue to keep my phone in my pocket regardless what HR says. I understand trying to limit distractions, but this seems a little childish considering our shift always gets the most work done out of everyone. What’s your opinion on this?
Good for him tho
UBI won’t work
Ok, first off, this post is aimed at AW posters who propose Universal Basic Income or some variant thereof, not at the general “a lot of employers suck” crowd (that I can agree with). Currency is simply a representation of work done or goods exchanged. Some modern economists have argued the opposite, but that's wishful thinking. A government can print as much cash as it wants, add countless 0's to bills, but in the end, the amount of collective productivity doesn't change with the increase in currency. This has been seen across thousands of years of human history, ranging back to early civilizations like the Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese. Economies resist top-down control, even creating black markets to meet customer needs when governments overreach. The law of Supply and Demand holds true. A government can print more money so that citizens can buy more bread, and bakers may even try…
