Work won’t promise me days off. What should I do?

I’m currently a fulltime college student working 40+ hrs a week. There’s only two workers, me and my manager. For my upcoming semester in January I asked for Tuesday/Wednesday off, but I keep being met with “we can’t promise that. It might have to be alternating between Tuesday and Thursday”. I feel annoyed because I worked all by myself for 4 days (along with during Black Friday) because she wanted to attend a wedding. What should I do? I make good money for my age but should I look for another job? (only been working here for a little more than 2months).

So infuriating

I got a text from a girl (that she included my bos in) at work saying I refunded a patient and how basically incompetent I am and now she needs to call the patient and ask them for double the money. I was seriously confused because you need a code to refund a patient from the machine and because I’m semi new there I don’t have the code. So I go into work yesterday and the first thing the boss says to me is “you owe me money for refunding the patient I’m seriously mad about it” I was pissed because I KNOW I didn’t do that. So, I called the bank merchant. They confirmed to me that there was no refunds that day and they got their information wrong. So I texted the girl and asked her where she put the receipt for that patient, and after reviewing it…

Work trying to get staff to pay for course

Just started a new job 2 weeks ago, nothing was mentioned in the interview about have a Serving it right certificate (being about to distribute alcohol). They are telling us we need to do it on our own time and also pay for it. Does anyone have advice on how to handle this maturely and accurate? The big boss says that working in hospitality everyone should have it anyway. For context I'm working as a bellman at a resort and will be mainly just carrying bags but “may” need to pour guest a glass of wine here and there.

How to earn money without working for the man

I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas for how to make money without working a 9-5 corporate job. Personally, I want to live and work off grid, but I’m taking any ideas. I’m trying to think of work from home ideas or side hobbies that you can make bank off of. If anyone has any good sources, websites, organizations, etc., please also feel free to share.

Horrible mental health work environment

I work at a doctors office that doesn’t let us have lunch breaks . We don’t get paid pto or sick days . No insurance or benefits. No 401k and no holiday or overtime . I had covid a few weeks back and I had to work with it with no sick time or paid leave . Same for my co worker . They don’t care about your mental health at all. I asked my boss about the system the have in plan if anyone at the office gets pregnant and he said choices . We chose to work there and we need to worry about condoms . All of the women at my job are 25 yrs + . If we want kids that shouldn’t be a second thought because the job we have been at for years will fire us or we will not get paid for doctor…

Good for you!

How am I supposed to respond to that? Boomers are constantly saying “good for you!” if they see me working on a holiday or filling in for a sick staff member when I am at work during an unusual time. Is it good for me that I'm working on a holiday? Is it good for me that I get a call at 6am stating staff isn't showing up so I have to cancel my day off to come in to work? Female Boomers also love to comment when they see me cleaning or with a vacuum in hand. “Nice to see a man doing women's work!” I shit you not. They mean it as a compliment.

Forced to use PTO when directed to go home?

Might be the wrong sub but does anyone have experience with this? 3 weeks ago I got the flu. Told my boss I could be at work he said I needed to stay home until I was well. Last week I got Covid. Same story from the boss about needing to stay home. Now he is saying I have used all my PTO and my week out with Covid will be unpaid. For context, new employee only 5 months in so I only had a week of PTO. I work construction as a superintendent. My job sites are currently undergoing excavation which means I spend all day in my truck watching the HE move dirt. So I 100% could have been at work and avoided people. So since I was told not to be at work by my boss when I was willing and able to be at work can…

UPS applications- since when do friends and family have to do HR’s job?

I have a family member applying for a seasonal job and they require the applicant to find someone to do the I-9 verification. Nice of a massive company to offload work to people not even applying…and, by nice, I mean total BS. Oh, and by the way, Equifax sucks too. It’s their talx product that UPS uses to do this and it is a pain in the neck that failed repeatedly. Edit- on the upside, the UPS recruiting team sent me an email saying “Great Work” so I got a nice pat in the head.

do i need to be more assertive/how to get better at complaining

i would love feedback on my situation: background, i work for a small business, probably less than 20 employees, for the past 6-7 months. in general i am happy to have this job because it took me a long time to find anything that pays enough to live on but is also flexible for my family care obligations (i cannot work full time bc my schedule is very restricted and most places i apply wont accept this, or the hourly rate is too low to live on part time). i worked as a cook for a long time and getting out of restaurants has been a huge plus too. my employer, the owner, is mostly great: respectful, supportive, understanding and in general seems very fair about things, proactive about solving problems …..it also helps that the business REALLY depends on the employees: if they quit or don't show up one…
