i would love feedback on my situation: background, i work for a small business, probably less than 20 employees, for the past 6-7 months. in general i am happy to have this job because it took me a long time to find anything that pays enough to live on but is also flexible for my family care obligations (i cannot work full time bc my schedule is very restricted and most places i apply wont accept this, or the hourly rate is too low to live on part time). i worked as a cook for a long time and getting out of restaurants has been a huge plus too. my employer, the owner, is mostly great: respectful, supportive, understanding and in general seems very fair about things, proactive about solving problems …..it also helps that the business REALLY depends on the employees: if they quit or don't show up one…
What do you think of this idea?
one of the most anxiety inducing things for me was calling in and having my work be all pissed about it because theyre going to be short staffed. i wish there were subsitute retail workers just like teachers have, but I absolutely understand that no management would actually stand behind doing this for cost reasons. once you work in a few different retail places those skills can be used almost anywhere, and even just having someone who could wash a few extra dishes or do ANYTHING would ease the burden of being short staffed. idk what the point of this is but I'm going to keep dreaming about this existing lol
Reminded of a story
I was doing my MSc part-time (UK) and working to pay for it (worked 4 days a week, MSc 2). I worked in a cafe in a library. Thought it'd be a cushty job, cos it's a library. I was SO wrong. There was tonnes wrong with this place but one was a major shortage of staff. They just refused to hire enough people but also refused to serve a realistic food menu. One day I was scheduled to close (6:30pm). I had acute tonsillitis (first time ever) and was completely delirious with a v high fever. Told them I needed to go to the GP for antibiotics. They said “OK but you need to come back to close afterwards”. The doctors was a two mile walk away and it was snowing but I went back. Sat down for the last hour (again, I was delirious with a v high…
I recently put my two weeks in at my Pharmacy tech job at CVS, and after that they put me on the schedule everyday, except thanksgiving, until the day I start my new job. As of now I work 6 days in a row, and the next day I have to go to sleep because my new job has me working 1am-11am, and my current job knows about this. If I don’t finish my two weeks the days I don’t come in, it’ll just be one pharmacist running the pharmacy with no help, which I’d feel guilty for, but on the other hand, one of the reasons I wanted to leave the job in the first place is because they overwork and under schedule people, we had multiple people quit which resulted in me working more with less help, and they’ve done nothing to fix that. I really don’t want…
I hate my fiancés job.
Hello everyone. New here. Saw this forum and was like hell yea I’ve got some WORDS. I hate my fiancés job. A certain bug tech company that’s rhymes w/ vestguy. Well. He worked Black Friday, 12pm-10pm. But get this? No Overtime pay as per the new owner of the business. Another thing? He’s been there 4 yrs. Just raised his pay $1 above what PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST GETTINF HIRED GET PAID. he gets 15 min lunches and some day no lunches bc they are so short staffed (8-10 work days) He works in a smaller unit which isn’t customer service but for Black Friday the GM put him on front lanes because “he can see memberships the best” (no commission, no incentive) he is best in store for sales. That’s all he gets. Seriously???? He’s the best but gets this treatment? Asked to get people to leave reviews, buy…
I know your asking how that's even possible but hear me out. I recently applied for this remote work site in the fintech industry. They sent me a form to fill out and in you had to choose a time for the interview. My time was scheduled yesterday for 10:30am. Only problem. There was no information on where to go for the interview. No link for any virtual meeting. No zoom, Google meets. Nothing. Sent an email the day before and no response. Turns out I'm not the only person who they did this too. It'll be interesting to see if they try to reschedule.
No thanks. Get wrecked son
Hello everyone! For context; I am a young professional in Canada. I used to work as a nurse in a hospital but left due to appalling working conditions. I applied for admin jobs and got one. I was hired as a coordinator and I WFH. I really like it! I told my manager during the interview that I can be a very flexible employee but I do expect to be doing the job that I applied for and being paid for. I was assured, that this would not be an issue! (That was a lie. Keep reading…) However; a few months into the job my manager announced that I would need to help a colleague in the treatment specialist department. To be qualified to work in this department you need to have clinical experience/a background in healthcare and be bilingual, so they are struggling to staff the department but I…
