I've worked at this restaurant chain as a cashier for 5 months, part-time. A couple weeks ago, my manager on duty told me that I was not guaranteed a break to eat on busy shifts after I asked for a break. I told her under Oregon law I am required to take a 10 minute break for every 4 hours worked (my shifts are 5 hours). She argued with me and I knew I was right but didn't know what to do about it so I kept working. I did end up getting my break, and she corrected herself over text after I had left and we discussed the matter. Everything was fine and I decided not to go above her head with it or quit as I am only working one day a week and need the extra cash. (I'm a full time student and this is my only…
How to deal with toxic coworkers
Hello all, this is gonna be a rant kind of post. So I started this job back in May, working in the kitchen in a LTC facility. My coworker is a toxic person, she thinks just because she’s been there the longest that she has authority over everyone. It’s her and another coworker who thinks that they can talk to everyone however they want, being disrespectful and rude and making snarky comments. For example one minute they’ll act like they’re your friend and act nice and cordial and the next day they are the complete opposite. My toxic coworker asked me if I was working on my day off which I replied I guess not cause I’m off. And she was like you were just off though. I was off the day before and I was off again. And so we made a deal that we were gonna switch days…
Sephora’s greedy ass policies
I just started working at Sephora. I am required to put my belongings in the locker PRIOR to clocking in because that 1 minute is a minute too much. Adding to that, I am have to clock out BEFORE getting my mandatory search in which they check my pockets and purse. I’m being forced to stay on the work premises after work to be searched but am not getting compensated for the time. Worst part is that I don’t want to complain because I’m new here but as far as I’m aware, it’s illegal in California to mandate such checks off the clock. I understand why the searches exist but it’s annoying having to be checked every single time I plan to take my lunch or clock out of work. They even check my skinny wallet that isn’t even big enough to fit chapstick.
So my boss was getting ready to plan a trip out of town to Chicago. Let’s call him “Dennis.” Dennis called a meeting because our team lead, let’s call her “Sierra,” just got headhunted and now we need to talk about restructuring during when we usually take lunch. So I’m all confused cause it’s lunch and Dennis called a meeting because he has a cab in 20 min. Long story short, I bring my lunch into the meeting and try to hide it and not cause a scene but everyone sees me eating it, so I try and suck it down really fast. But I inhale too fast and now I’m choking on my lunch, it’s a hot dog btw, and my teammates pin me up against the wall and Dennis pulls the hotdog out of my mouth. And I almost tripped over someone’s bag. Dennis shouldn’t have scheduled the…
Buc-ee’s pay structure
I've just passed probation at my new job. I'm an HR Generalist. I have a baby in daycare and she has been sick a lot. After she gets sick, I get sick. It's been awful. My company has 10 PTO days for personal and 25 paid sick days. I've been doing my best to either come in when sick and work for work from home. When I'm at home with my baby sometimes she needs my attention so I'm away from my computer but I always get my job done. If I need to work later or login extra early… whatever, I do what I need to do. I've been sent home twice and told to stay home until I am better. Today I got in trouble for taking too many sick days and then in the same conversation got in trouble for when im working from home I once…
