Downtrodden rant

I’ve been out of work for over 3 months with Lyme Desease Carditis, the rehab from it is a lot like a heart attack, but on top of that I have the Lyme fatigue. I had to go back to work this week even though I don’t feel even close to ready because I ran out of money. Auto payments got returned last week and rent is coming up again quick. I had to go back to work, I put in two fuckin days, one an 11 hour shift and one an 8 hour shift then tested positive for Covid about an hour ago meaning I’m not gonna be able to pay for a bunch of things. Being out of work has made me not want to work again ever but I need to because our healthcare system is a disaster and cost me over 8k just in hospital bills.…

“No one wants to work” BS

i just wanted to rant about how fucking awful this job market is and the stupid 'no one wants to work' ideology. i have applied to hundred upon hundreds of jobs and even the most basic retail and food service jobs that “nobody wants” won't hire me. i have tried going in person and asking, but they all tell me to apply online anyways. i dont want to work for min wage but i have no choice. i currently don't have a degree because i cannot afford college even with the provided services and at this point in time i do not think it's beneficial for me to go into debt if 4 years later i will still be stuck in this same spot except with debt hanging over my head. i do have previous experience before and have done internships, my resume is not bad for someone in my…

Job Offer in a new city with less pay

I think I know how most folks will respond to this, but I want to make sure I’m on the right track. I’m currently in a long distance relationship (3.5 hours away) and my partner’s roommates have asked me to move in. This would be excellent for many reasons, not least of which is spending more time with my s/o. I work for a large corporation that in the last year announced a hefty base salary for all of their employees across the board. With these two things in mind, I applied for a job in the town where my partner lives within the company. The role is different, but this shouldn’t matter salary-wise as stated above. I received an offer letter that is a full $5 below the base pay, which I’m currently making a bit more than. I have been with this company for almost 4 years. They…

Have you ever had your boss creep on your Indeed activity?

I got into a heated argument with my boss and he brought up my indeed activity. He accused me of looking for another job. In reality I was not looking for another job at the time BUT now I am. I can’t afford to lose my job. However I can’t afford to lose my current skill set because I’ve been moved to a lower position for no real reason but I’m still earning the same amount. I know he watches the employment sites. How the hell do I make a smooth transition to another job.

Saw this posted at the restaurant I work at. I understand, but some things I don’t agree with. Talking to you isn’t ever unnecessary, and even bad service I tip minimum 20%. Thoughts?

A small local hotel keeps posting open calls very often, went there and apparently the manager was too busy to interview me and the other candidate.

Yeah, what's with that? I live like 10 mins away from this hotel, I decided to give it a shot since its so close and I have the experience. I went there, was greeted by an employee who asked me to take a seat and the manager will be there shortly. Another guy was waiting there waiting to be interviewed too. After 10 mins or so, the guy who greeted me come to us to tell us that the manager is busy with something but he will gladly take our resumes. Yup. So what was the whole point, why not say that from the very beginning?

Former employer is involved in a massive scandal involving sexual harassment, workplace violence, and manipulating young employees. Due to small-town politics, it’s not picked up by local media after 2 weeks of many people coming forward. How do the victims get this out to the public?

My former employer is a massive player in the education/tech space. They host what is now the largest youth robotics competition in the country and are also heavily involved in other areas of competitive robotics including Battlebots. Full-time employees and interns both have been victims of abuse by this company including myself. I consider myself lucky as my situation was nowhere near as bad as what others faced, especially if you were a woman or part of any marginalized community. Several employees have come forward saying that they had their life threatened, put into extremely compromising situations, and were subjected to verbal abuse, fear-based management tactics, and extreme sexual misconduct including the grooming of minor employees (high school aged teens from local robotics team were often exploited for cheap labor). The alleged misconduct is no secret amongst current or former employees. We have all witnessed it. After years of people…

Employer made employee come into work with child

Recently in my state there was a large lake effect snow advisory that quickly turned into a travel ban for the area. My job was “essential” during the pandemic for being a pharmaceutical company. The county executive of my state has said multiple times it is illegal for a job to make you go to work during the ban unless you are essential (police, fireman, hospital etc) However my job closed this past Friday and Saturday. Center manager wanted to open so on Sunday my coworker came in with his child has due to mine and my coworkers job title we can only open the business if one of us is there. My job does not allow children in the building due to the “pharmaceutical” business it is however the “need” to open was so “dire” that my coworker went into work with his 6 month old baby.
